Inside a typica GR20 lodge, it is necessary to remain civil when everyone piles up for the night on those stacked beds, the matresses are comfortable but there is not much room for the backpacks. The other 2 rooms are used as a common room and for the guardian 's living space respectively.

Between the Ninu Lake and the Manganu Lodge, another possible camping spot is the Vaccaghja Sheep & Goat Farm, typical of the dozen others we saw on the Corsican interior (a few in ruins), where our military friends set their many tents. Unfortunately in fall there is no milk to make the famous home-made goat & sheep cheese, those are available in spring & summer. The flat grassy plateau was so unexpected that another trekker sprained his ankle...

It is the action of living the summer in the cooler altitude pastures in order to get back down in autumn to avoid the snows. This habit nailed into the Corsican culture is a thousand years old tradition that allowed to avoid tropical illnesses transmitted by mosquitoes. For instance Malaria, aptly named by the Italians (mal aria = bad air) who believed it was caused by the actual hot humid summer air who brought illnesses by itself. The mosquitoes eradication during WWII erased this illness from the island.

The most classic POV on the famous Nino Lake, a stitch of 2 wide shots. Unfortunately the drought shows the shallow brown mud near the banks. It is nevertheless a very nice hike and the horses are always there to greet visitors.

I did not add sharpening since the grain of the image would have been rendered more visible, and the serene theme allows for some artistic blur.

A small retro-style hotel, but at least there are beds, showers, supplies and good meals, the road zigzaging up and down the pass is actually a curiosity that we've become unused to ;)
We've learned there a Corsican cultural particularity: you better NEVER change seating arrangements between meals... it seems to mess up the tables organisation and brings angry rebutals from waiters. It seems to go against the insular's sense of order just like the tradition of having meals served at a precise time, in opposition to our north-american perspective where the purpose of a business is to serve the client at the time he chooses ;)

At 75km long, the Golo is indeed Corsica's biggest river... Here at the bottom of the Lonca valley, the fact that it did not rain between may 15th and september show the lowest flow of the summer.

A few tents, the source of the Golo, some Taculas, cows grazing around the rocks, wild mouflons on the cliffs, a natural hole through the mountain face, a nice place to enjoy the terrace.

A very homely mountain lodge built of good timbers in an unusual architecture, full of fellow trekkers and lively discussions, add a delicious hot meal and we had trouble finding a reason to go to sleep in order to stay in shape!

Sometimes the large flat rocks of the GR20 requires some accrobatics in order to get down without sliding.
