This photo has a very strong central composition. I added contrast and drew lines to show it. It pretends to abstract even if it looks like a just winter photo that doesn't show something interesting. Actually the form is stronger and more meaningful than contents ;-)

In Photoshop I used curves - added points (in/out):43/38, 94/83, 161/194. And unsharp mask 80% 0.4px 2L. THis is a very slight correction but I think emphasizes the light conditions you mentioned in your note.

In Photoshop:
1) I cropped differently
2) duplicated background layer and set blending mode into 'soft light'
3) on the top - added adjustement layer - curves, with values in/out: 0/0, 134/83, 202/117, 255/255

Then - exported to NeatImage (free version) and used standart settings. Then exported to a file and in Photoshop - added frame.

I cropped your photo differently, I used also autolevels in Photoshop.

The different crop comes from the impression, that there are too many small details that draws my attention from the main object.

This is the way I would crop it. I used also curves to increase brightness, and unsharp mask with values 24% 22px 0L.
