The original is rather low contrast - the grey frame adds to that feeling. Increased contrast with curves, and changed for black... hope you like it.

Here's a simple solution: crop to the subject.
If it were a larger file size, I would crop to the faces at the bottom of the image.

I cropped the yellow frame and created a double frame with a shadow between the white and yellow frame to accentuate the volume of this nice door

Cropped a bit from the right side, converted to B&W. I'm not sure which version I like better...but I'm posting this anyway just so you can see the difference :).

I know this misses the main element of your shot - it's not meant as an improvement, but just an interesting crop I might have tried.

to richtersl: the photo had already beed run over neat image, but then photoshop restored grain effect with its unsharp mask. And I don't think Neat image can be used at any cases. I think sometimes picture looks more detalised just because of low grain even if it isn't detalised. But NI makes picture blured and that lookl like it is done with a cell phones camera with 0.3 px or something :\

I had used NI just to remove noise for this pic (the workshop is the original before NI and photoshop. Picture is so noisy because of ISO set to 400 andso 'orange' because of special Canon photoeffect.)

I tried bringing out her facial features a bit more by setting a new gray point on the box behind her head. This seemed to warm the overall cast of the picture. Then I lightened it just a little using the levels settings. To bring out even more detail, I tried using a fill flash setting. When I used the fill flash I was able to bring out the house in the background.

I tried cropping the photo to eliminate the branch shadows on her sweater and didn't like the result. The overall charm of the photo is the way her hands are positioned so I left it alone.

The software I used for this is Photoshop Elements, which is a non-professional version of Photoshop.
