- Intro
- Hi all ! I am happy to participate to all three brands - earth, lens and nature - of this impressive gathering of amateurs of good photography.
My wife and I are retired marine biologists. We live in a very small village of Brabant Wallon (Belgium). I started to develop and enlarge myself B&W pictures in the early 60’s. I used a slides projector while I was sparing money to purchase the real thing. My weapon was an heavy Edixa-reflex that fitted quite well to the microscope. Accurate focusing was possible on a frosted glass surface. I had thereafter, in succession or in parallel, a Rolleiflex camera, an Olympus µU and finally the photonumerical Minolta Dimage F100 camera. A Nikon Coolscan V scanner is used to convert ancient color pictures (positive and negative) and B&W negative pictures to adequate file formats. I might still be using truly silver-based films whenever the old Edixa (he’s still in quite good shape) is required i.e. for microphotography. I am using PhotoShop elem.2 to bring the necessary corrections: therein I find back some of the darkroom thrill. I am not a fan of tricks and filtering techniques although it is sometimes real fun !
Another practice, not always appreciated by connoisseurs, is the conversion of the color mode (RGB) into a scale of greys. I understand the purists who want to keep intact the B&W integrity and soul, whereas others will be content achieving nonetheless beautiful and meaningful results. - Member Since
