 highlight/shadow, dodge & burn brush | CliffW
(2302) [2007-07-21 12:04:16] [2] | I used the highlights and shadows tool in Adobe to bring out a little of the character in the boat's hulk. This also lightened the ground. Raised the gamma in the level tools too to 1.08. I then dodged highlights and burned shadows with soft edged brushes at 5% around his feet. I also cloned out the little dark bit in the upper right.
Hope it didn't change it too much. |

Sepia version same steps as the color ws | CliffW
(2302) [2007-07-20 16:53:26] [6] | I just took what I had done on the other ws I just uploaded at http://www.trekearth.com/workshops/696109/photo106847.htm
Used Imaging Factory B&W conversion plugin in Adobe to convert. Thought it may be interesting to see a version that focused just on light. |

 color/light intensity, cropped | CliffW
(2302) [2007-07-20 16:50:24] | Cropped as you can see. Tried to put the frame back on as you had it.
I used the curve tool to bring up the light in the middle and down in the shadows. Upped the gamma in levels too a little. Used the channel mixer to tone down the red a bit caused by the previous steps.
Finally I used the sharpening brush just a the two main women's faces.
Hope you like. Got a Sepia version to upload too. |

increased exposure on foreground | CliffW
(2302) [2007-06-21 00:39:00] | | I made a second copy of the photo in a layer and increased levels in the top layer so that you could see the buildings. This made the sky overexposed. I then used the erase tool to remove the sky from the top layer, showing the original beautiful sky on the layer below. |

levels, crop to square format | CliffW
(2302) [2007-05-25 17:29:55] [3] | | I used Adobe PS levels to bring the histogram into normal ranges on either end. This "deepened" the photo a little. I also cropped to a square and framed it. Thought the square suited the subjects a little better, but it's a matter of taste. |
