A mosaic from El Djem depicts the musical contest between Apollo and the satyr Marsyas (second century), another the "Triumph of Venus" (Kasserine, third century).
Budapestman (82620) 2009-03-22 01:44:42Turku Cathedral is the mother church of the Lutheran Church of Finland, and the country’s national shrine. It is also regarded as one of the major records of Finnish architectural history. Turku Cathedral is now over seven hundred years old. A small parish church was built on the hill of Unikankare in Turku, and consecrated as the church of St. Mary around the middle of the 13th century. The church, originally made of wood, and later rebuilt with stone, was consecrated as the Cathedral in 1300. At the same time, the Cathedral was dedicated to the patronage of St. Henry, the first bishop in Finland.

In 1942 during World War II, the church took a direct hit from a German bomb while more than 300 people were congregated inside for Mass. The bomb pierced the dome and fell to the ground with a bounce, but failed to explode. The army took the bomb outside and diffused it, and no one was hurt. The event has become legendary, with many regarding it as a miracle.

Very probable, the Sümeg castle is visible on the photo. The castle is restored since decades, changed a lot in the past years because of this. But on the photo observable the similarities: stable for the horses, the stage, the wall details. Unfortunately, better picture from the yard of the castle I did not find it in my collection. I found a note to the photo. I hope, you like this.
