| Intro: | Archaeologist, historian, linguist, anthropologist. Also, self-taught artist and free-lance photographer. Critiques are welcome on the quality of the photos and on how to improve it. Critiques in French, Italian, Greek, Turkish and Russian are also accepted. Note on the photos posted here: All the photos until now are scannings from negatives and slides hence the noise and grains. Notes on photography: 1. Anybody can take very good shots without the use of filters and without Photoshop editing. Proof to this is this same website. The difference between an amateur photographer and a National Geographic or Magnum photographer is fame. 2. Photography descends from painting and drawing. The camera was originally the camera obscura, a tool used by artists to make exact copies of reality. A good photographer’s eye is the same as a good painter’s eye. I was influenced by my background in painting and drawing, especially by Dutch and Italian artists like Rembrandt, Rubens, Vermeer and Botticelli. Whenever I see a view that reminds me of some painting style, I shoot it. 3. With Photoshop nothing is lost. Even the ugliest photo can be repaired and a meaning can be given to it. If Color doesn't work, try B&W with sepia tone. 4. To create sepia tone different combinations can be done: - Red+Yellow - Blue+Magenta - Cyan+Magenta - Red+Green |
