I believe ALL digital photos can be improved by post processing.
In this case I've performed the following minor adjustments:
Crop and level horizon.
Minor levels and lighting adjustment (lightened).
Unsharp mask added to reduce 'blur' a little.

What I wanted here is to get the geometric shapes stand out.
Could've been done better but I had to go to bed! ;-D

Here is what I did:

1.) rotated the original image 0.5 degrees CW to straighteen the bridge's shade edge (seen in water);
2.) cropped to get rid of the upper part of the bridge and on the sides (all to get a desired composition);
3.) selected the bridge and played with curves to fix the overexposure as much as possible;
4.) selected the bridge and desaturated unwanted yellows + saturated reds a bit;
5.) selected the green areas and saturated.
6.) selected the bridge, inverted and sharpened a bit.

Hi Andrew,

I took your original and resized it in PS7 to the maximum 800 pixels (giving the size 800x605).
Then I just sharpened it once.
And finally I saved for Web at the setting <200kB.

Also in this one the text is smaller (although still unnecessary).

What do you think? Does this live up to your expectations?

I used curves to try and increase the contrast in the ripples and I added the border as I had reached the 250 pixels limit.
I would be interested in seeing it again.

I didn't change much at all - I just used curves to try and reduce the highlights in the top of the arch a little. There is slightly more detail in the stone but I seem to have made the moss darker unfortunately.

Using the photo from TrekEarth I:
Played around with the brightness, contrast, saturation and balanced the colours. Cropped to remove the top.

What do you think? Better worse than original?

Auto levels and auto colour. Used curves to add some more contrast. Used Brightness and Contrast to remove some light and increase the contrast some more. Cropped and framed.

In PS-E2 I corrected the leaning by rotating the pic 0,5 degrees to left, applied auto-levels, cropped it to make it (almost) symmetric, boosted the saturation (master and blues), sharpened and saved for the web. I hope you like it.
