Photographer’s Note
Manarola is a small town, in the province of La Spezia in Northern Italy. It is the second smallest of the famous Cinque Terre towns frequented by tourists.
Manarola may be the oldest of the towns in the Cinque Terre, with the cornerstone of the church, San Lorenzo, dating from 1338. The local dialect is Manarolese, which is marginally different from the dialects in the nearby area.
Manarola's primary industries have traditionally been fishing and wine-making. The local wine, called Sciacchetrà, is especially renowned; references from Roman writings mention the high quality of the wine produced in the region. In recent years, Manarola and its neighboring towns have become popular tourist destinations, particularly in the summer months. Tourist attractions in the region include a famous walking trail between Manarola and Riomaggiore (called Via dell'Amore, "Love's Trail") and hiking trails in the hills and vineyards above the town.

Hi Jude,
Nice colours and I like the plant in the foreground (is it a cactus?). Good perspective in shooting the photo upwards. Thanks for sharing!

Salut Jude
Good color with a superb upward pov. I like the juxtapositioning of the fg plant against the bg buildings. The strip of blue sky at the top is a good inclusion. Excellent sharpness & framing. Bon travail!

Hello Jude,
Lovely POV of this pretty town, I can never get enough of the Cinque Terra. The foreground cactus is good, it hides most of the sheet hanging from the balcony rail of the house. If it were mine I would have cloned or cropped out that bit of building protruding into the frame about halfway up on the left. For me it doesn't add to the shot and just makes it a bit untidy. Always hard to see stuff on the edge of frame through the viewfinder.
Lovely shot all the same, aren't the colours of these five villages wonderful.
Regards
Peter

Hello Jude,
Last night I had written a critique of your image of the Discobolos, and I had checked off the dark green smiley. When I realized I had made a serious typo, I went back and corrected it. Alas, the smiley disappeared. Evidently, I had exhausted my share of smileys for the day (a rare occurrence). I am happy not to come back peruse your gallery, and this beauty popped up. The plants in the foreground, I believe they are called "mother-in-law tongues," make a perfect focal point to the rising cliff-like hills n the background. The verticality of the scene is captured, along with a tribute to Italian engineering — over generations they have successfully built so many towns on the faces of cliffs. If you've driven down the Amalfi Coast from Sorrento to Positano and to Amalfi, you might have seen the roads cantilevered over the sea hundreds of meters high, the villages built into the cliffs, and people trudging their way daily up and down.
Warm regards,
Bulent
