Photographer’s Note
The Torre de Comares (Comares Tower) reflected in the pool of the Patio de los Arrayanes (Court of the Myrtles).
The Court of the Myrtles is 42 m (140 ft) long by 22 m (74 ft) broad with a central pool surrounded with a marble pavement and myrtle bushes growing along its sides.
The Comares Tower is the location of the Salón de los Embajadores (Hall of the Ambassadors). The Salón is a grand reception room, with the throne of the sultan opposite the entrance. It was in this setting that Christopher Columbus received Isabel and Ferdinand's support to sail to the New World.
The buildings along the length of the court comprised the palace dwellings.
