Photographer’s Note

Mussenden Temple - Co Londonderry

This is a small circular building located on cliffs near Castlerock, high above the Atlantic Ocean on the north-western coast of Northern Ireland.

It was built in 1785 and forms part of the estate of Frederick Augustus Hervey, Bishop of Derry and 4th Earl of Bristol. Built as a library and modelled on the Temple of Vesta in Italy, it is dedicated to the memory of Hervey's cousin Frideswide Mussenden.

fantastic shot! The capture of the rainbow is great as is the positioning of the temple. The lighting and colors are fantastic with nice sharpness and DOF. The stone wall acts as a good lead in for the scene.

another great shot, Stephen, the overlaping lines of the stone wall and rainbow create a good 3D feel to the scene, I like that a lot. your point of view is just right to also have the lines of waves converge towards the temple, and, as in all your shots, the colours are just great. excellent work, my compliments.

Hi Stephen,
Excellent shot. The framing is perfect, with the temple well placed and the wall driving us from the foreground to the temple and creating a good depth of field. The light on the sea is fantastic and the rainbow brings colours to this dark sky.

It has all the elements, and well taken.....but does it grab you?
To me it lacks something and I don't know what...that's a problem
For the shot 2 points...but..but..but...i don't know, not your best????
I wish I knew what it was?

You really nailed the exposure on this one! No obvious filter line either, which is great. Also, you really got the rainbow to stand out, which is something I usually have a hard time with. Love the colors on the grass and Temple as well.

You seem to get lucky with rainbows just like i do, but as you know there is a bit of skill involved too!
Well, this is another pretty much perfect combo once again with a great POV.

By the way, i have just uploaded a photo with a rainbow in it too, and this was before i even saw you had uploaded a rainbow pic!

An incredible light cast across this image! The rainbow, clouds, ocean water's break, blue sky, and the perfect positioning of the bell tower allows this to stand out beyond many.

Beautiful and unique shot of a very photographed place (at least on this site, haha). That rainbow is fantastic, but then so is everything else about this shot. Love the sharpness here, the rich colors, the exposure. Great job.
