Photographer’s Note

The day after the departure of the Vendée Globe (Sunday 9th November), Jean-Baptiste Dejeanty had to head back to Les Sables d'Olonne because of some damages on his boat after a strong storm.
All his team gathered on the dock to repair it but he wasn’t too sure whether he could start the race again.
It is indeed important not to leave too late after the others because it would be too risky to be in the Southern Ocean alone with its severe wind and wave conditions. If you have an accident and no other boat around, your chances of surviving are too small. In order to avoid this risk, Jean-Baptiste decided he would leave again Les Sables d'Olonne only if the boat was ready within a week
And one week later, Sunday 16th November on this photo, he was leaving the harbour of Les Sables d'Olonne.
Obviously not as many spectators as the week before, so I didn't need a stepladder this time!
My apologies because, for this reason, this perspective is not as good as last week.
We were still about 2000 spectators and Jean-Baptiste was amazed about the incredible crowd of inhabitants who went out to cheer him.
On the photo, you can see the 60 feet boat is surrounded by small motor boats, including an orange life boat at the front and a traditional wooden green and red sailing boat.
