** Iranian Architecture **
During the last session of the Committee to Save Azadi Tower, which was held on September 28, Iranian experts proposed a program for renovation of the structure, which is the symbol of the city of Tehran, Mehr News Agency (MNA) reported.
Several years ago, experts said that the tower was threatened by both internal and external causes such as erosion, the irrigation system, traffic, and the green space surrounding it.
Azadi Tower is located on Azadi Square at the western entrance of Tehran where the Karaj Special Road begins.
According to the program, engineers will be asked to design an appropriate irrigation system for the tower and surrounding green space.
Experts previously said that the tower had sunk due to leaks in the tower’s water pipelines and that the moisture had seriously damaged the foundation of the tower.
To decrease traffic around the tower, the two underground motorways will be expanded and two new underground motorways will also be constructed.
A member of the Committee to Save Azadi Tower said that the program will be implemented one year from now.
In 1966, the government held a competition calling on Iranian architects to design a symbolic building for the capital city of Tehran. In the end, a design drawn by Tehran University graduate Hossein Amanat was chosen and the construction of the tower, which was named Shahyad (which means reminiscence of the king), began in 1969 and was completed 28 months later. Shahyad Tower was renamed Azadi (which means freedom) Tower after the victory of the Islamic Revolution in 1979.
A combination of Islamic and Sassanid styles of architecture can be seen in the design of Azadi Tower. The arch rises from the tower mirroring the Alborz mountain range just north of the city. It is 45 meters high and its facade is made of 8000 white stone slabs brought from Isfahan.
The tower is part of the Azadi Cultural Complex, which covers an area of about 5 hectares.
In 1974, Azadi Tower was officially registered as a national heritage site

Hi Sadegh.
Cette photo est superbe. J'aime cette architecture aux lignes très pures bien mises en valeur par la mise en lumière de nuit.
Beau travail !

The color and line of the photo are great, but thank you too for the comment. I don't know much about Iran and am glad to learn about such a symbol.
