Photographer’s Note
This shot was taken at the Citadel in Cairo, at a Sufi Dancing performance. I noticed some other shots on TE that focus on the dancers; I like this shot because you get a sense of the context of the dancing, with the stage, the broken chandelier, the lights, and the backup "band."
It's a religious ceremony, but how spiritual is it if its being performed nightly for tourists?
In photoshop, I increased saturation and contrast.

Seems you were lucky with the light here Anna:-) usually those performances are in places less lit...The composition could be really great if you had avoid the light stand in the foreground.
Indeed those performances are tourist attractions but the original thing is a religious ceremony. The problem is that is very dificult to attend it, and even if you do, photography is prohibited there!

Hiya . Good photo. I found when i took photos at the citidal that it is hard to get a good vantage point. However, you do get an idea of the context which adds to the shot. I still think that the event is significant, even if it is put on for the tourists. It educates peopel about an area od egyptian culture which they wouldn't normally see.
