Begun in the time of the Emperor Theodosius 379 -395 AD
The walls are possibly built on the remnants of Cassander's Hellenistic constructions. They are 8 kms long (about half survive) with about 40 square towers. This is part of the Hormisdas tower. Hormisdas held various offices under Theodosius.
