The Last Autumn Tree Photo

Photographer’s Note

What you see here is the last of the autumn trees this year!

That means the last tree to throw the leaves, all the other trees lost the foliage a couple of weeks earlier when this one still had green leaves that survived the powerful storm we were hit by…

Now I should tell you what kind of tree this is but regretfully I can’t since I don’t know. Maybe someone out there knows? All help is appreciated!

The autumn season this year was more colourful than the usual, but thanks to the storm also shorter. However I have autumn images in stock for the coming weeks that will be so dark and boring in my place that photography isn’t very inspiring.

Or maybe we’ll get snow, you never know this time of year!

As to the kind of tree I got a suggestion from Ulf Ericson (UlfE) who is fairly sure it is Svensk Asal (Sorbus intermedia)! Isn’t that typical, a Swedish tree on Norwegian soil, hahaha!

This is a nice capture of the beautifully colored tree. The lighting is outstanding here making the tree standout against the background. The dark blue sky creates nice contrast to the bright yellow leaves.

What a fantastic artistic picture, Pablo. The way the last tree shines against every other dark elements in the photo makes a magical effect. I mean, the sun is pointing only to those yellow leaves and it's 'night time' all around them. Congratulations for this gorgeous image.

I enjoy this shot far more than your previous post. The colours are really beautiful and the yellow autumn leaves looks superb against the dark blue sky. Moreover, you give us a real challenge when asking us to identify this tree. I believe if you had provided us with a picture in WS of a leave of this tree it would have been an easy task. Nevertheless, my guess is that it might be what you in Norwegian call Svensk Asal (Sorbus intermedia) not very common in Norway, but a check in the internet reveals that you could find it in Sør-Trøndelag. TFS and have a nice weekend!

I quite like the bright yellow leaves against the dark blue background, this colours combination always works very well. the side-light nicely emphasises the golden tone and adds interesting shine to the leaves, I like it a lot, makes the leaves look as if made from metal. nice one :)

The point of view takes our eyes toward the tree showing the fall colors. The dark sky is refleting the light toward the tree and it is enhancing the colors of the leaves. The subject is well frame. Have a nice day.

Always next year now for Autumn now, still a good few yellow leaves on this one, but they are teetering on the edge of death. The dark blue skies work well against the yellow with the light source showing us the sharpness and colours of image. Well done Pablo

Your shot is a very good example of what is happening, just three weeks ago I was in USA enjoying the fall colors in the trees and now i imagine that all that beauty is gone.

You caught the light perfectly as it set the leaves aflame as they peer out through the forest of barren trees. Sorry, I can't help with the tree. Aspens are gold but they aren't usually long lasting and I can't see if the bark is white.

What a spectacular splash of colors, but you are confusing me with the declaration of b&w. It is unusual that his tree, in contrast the all the others, held on to its leaves. It's very dramatic in that respect. The deep blue and yellow suggests the Swedish flag, I think that's where Ulf Ericson got his clue.

Hi, Pablo. The leaves of the tree show splendid colours that contrast well with its bare neighbour. They stand well out against the blue sky. It's amazing to see how different species react to the climate. Anyway, winter seems to be well on its way now and soon all leaves will have been blown away.

We have some snow already, in a suburbs, it's laying on the grass in the rather small amounts. This year, I think, we will have a real winter, you in Scandinavia and we in Ingermanlandia as well.

I like how you framed this photo, a classic one third area for the sky and the rest to the golden tree! I also noticed that you used here my "workhorse" of a lens. When I travel, I seldom change lens, this 18-200 VR is enough, although I carry a Sigma 17-70mm as reserve.

Hi Pablo: The last remaining tree to hold the leaves under fine lighting is so glorious in the frame. The deep bluish background is so contrasting and the details of the twigs are so well captured. Do you still have trees holding to the leaves at this time of the year in Sweden?
