Photographer’s Note

Travelling to Adrar n'Anhet,crossing a giant stage,the cars stopped suddenly,i did not understand why.
It was midday prayer time for the drivers and guide.
I still don't know how they can know the oriention of Mekka,without compass or gps.
(for muslim,they must pray in that direction,otherwise ,pray is not valid).

Great shot! I like the distortion in this shot - but especially the desert colors set against that clear and bright blue sky.

L'utilisation du grand angle donne une excellente profondeur et dynamique à l'image.
Les couleurs sont particulièrement valorisées par le filtre polarisant.

ben voyons Patrick vue l'heure (ils ont une montre quand même) et l'ombre il est en principe facile de savoir où se situe l'Est (en après-midi je pense dans la direction des ombres justement?)
pour la photo belle luminosité et indéniablement ta "patte" vu la prise au grand angle qui élargit l'orientation des véhicules semblant "regarder" chacun dans sa direction! effet renforcé en plus par le format horizontal du cliché. (mais peut être un peu trop en fait à mon goût)

I like your POV here, Patrick, which makes the trucks look big and looming, as if they dominate the desert, even though they are actually tiny objects in the middle of the vastness. The somewhat low-angled light gives you quite rich color--it's surprising to see such a vast flat plain of dark red.

I imagine they locate Mecca by using the direction of the sun and the time of day. I mean, they don't have to be absolutely exact. Regards, Ken.

SAlut Patrick,
celle-là marche très bien pour moi. Avec ce style de nuages et de paysage, le grand angle marche à la perfection. J'aime les longues ombres, les véhicules et les vêtements de l'homme à droite. C'est la trinité de voiture également qui est très efficace. C'est une règle souvent énoncée et qu'on a peine à croire qu'elle est efficace...Mais ici, les trois voitures formant un triangle, ça marche, ça donne du rythme.
Pour moi, il te manque un sujet humain en premier-plan. C'est dur à expliquer pourquoi. Je ne me sens pas impliqué dans la scène quand je regarde ta photo, elle ne vient pas occuper mes yeux. Je crois qu'un sujet plus près, un contact avec les yeux changerait complètement ta photo. Je peux me tromper également...ce ne serait pas la première fois!!

Very nice composition here, especially with the wide angle put to great use in the middle of nowhere.
I'm guessing they use the sun to get the eastern bearing, or known landmarks to know which time it is, I know I can do one with the other so they probably have enough experience to guess both (using the sun's angle to the horizon as approximation of the time of day?)
Either that or they simply know this area inside & out :D

Really pretty picture. I like the use of the fish eye. It feels like everything is coming at the viewer. The colors are excellent and clear and the shadows are perfect. Well done.

Great composition with all this trucks exposed well sited in a amazing place. The contrast between sky and land is just a explosion of colours that matches perfectly with the elements around. Very well done Patrick.
