Peruvian Corn Photo

Photographer’s Note

At the market in Pisac the locals were selling everything from crafts to food, including the many varieties of corn - one of the most widely-consumed foodstuffs in Peruvian cuisine. Corn has been planted in Peru since at least 1200 BC. The ancient Peruvian farmers achieved a degree of sophistication in the selection and creation of new varieties which adapted to varying terrains and climates.
You can find corn, which is known locally as choclo, in every color under the sun: white, yellow, purple, black, red and mixed.
Today, farmers along the Peruvian coast, highlands and jungle grow more than 55 varieties of corn, more than anywhere else on Earth.
Chicha morada, a local drink along the lines of gluhwein, but served cold, is made from the purple corn and is extremely tasty and refreshing.

Une photo originale et très bien présentée qui nous montre les différentes sortes de blé-d'inde qu'on peut trouver la-bas. Ici on en trouve dans les magasins mais ils servent surtout de décoration. Excellente qualité d'image et belle harmonie de couleurs.
