Photographer’s Note

I have been on the road for 2 weeks without a laptop. Not good. I need to rectify that situation ASAP. So, very little TE or TL for that time.

Another shot from the Albuquerque Balloon Fiesta. This shot is of the balloons leaving the field. Lots of balloons in the BG, some as mere dots.

These balloons were participating in a competition called Texas hold ‘em, where long poles were located in the field and the pilots were trying to grab the items that were attached to the top of the pole. There was a lot of jockeying for position and one of the reasons the balloons are so close together.

The prizes were either money or keys for a new car, thus the competition was keenly attended. The pilots were allowed 4 flybys. They would fly off the field and rise up to head north again to come back in onto the field. It was a very exciting competition. On this day,4 out of the 5 prizes were claimed.

Hello Joni,

I am delighted to see you back and with another spectacular shot of the sky crowded with hot air balloons. The proximity of the three balloons in the foreground, then those in the distance fading into specs — all very dramatic.

De superbes couleurs pour cet envol groupé et un cadrage bien pensé pour donner aux ballons une belle présence sur cette photos.
Les compétitions en montgolfière sont un grand moment notamment pour les pilotes puisque leurs engins ne réagissent qu'au bon vouloir du vent!!

Hi Joni,

I like the trio of balloons, the bright colors well saturated and the sharp vision on the gondolas. The position of the three balloons near each other is very good. I would have found a view without the ground, and the balloons a little higher in the sky, even more effective. I have seen your "Colour in the sky" and you probably did not want to risk a repetition of the same composition, but with this trio, and a uniform background, it would be a hit ! (well, to my idea)

Hello Joni! What a happy moment again when the balloons are filled and ready to leave, finally taking off, going into all directions. I really like the low ground and that you have actually included it, it shows the environment a little and gives us an idea what we might expect. Great moment, wonderful colors, blue skies ... and no clouds :))) Don't work too hard, but we sometimes have to, and here and there we get things like this one back, spending our free time with exciting things. When I see your shot it reminds me of the good weather when we have the hot air balloons festival that fill the sky in the morning and evening adding so much color to a rather drap town.
Very nicely captured you show them off at their best.

Bonjour Joni,
toute la séduction qui émane de ces couleurs vivesn qui ne peuvent être bien mises en évidence que dans de bonnes lumières, ce qui est le cas ici.
Un cadrage précis, bien refermé sur les ballons.

Poster quality!

The balloons are fantastic colors to the blue sky. I wonder why the sharpness is suffering a little in this capture for 1/640s? Good moment click for this well composed shot.

I was wondering where you'd been! I never have a laptop with me either, but I travel with a husband who does. ;-)) Let him unpack and repack through security, all I do is take off my shoes... :-))
Sorry to side track! Your photo is beautiful. Colorful and sharp. I love the way I can see the people in the basket and how the little baloons are scattered all over the b/g. Great job!

Hello Joni,

The fine light makes the balloons really sparkle!
I like the composition, it is amazing to see the three balloons in this stunning formation...
A good documentary of the activities at the festival, and an artistic presentation!

Hi Joni,
This superb cathch of yours is a great eye catcher! The visual arrangement of the 3 balloons in the FG could hardly be more scenic and their vivid colours against the clear blue sky enhances the punch very nicely. I like also the presence of the other baloons and the strip of land below.
