Photographer’s Note
This image was taken near Grassington (Yorkshire Dales).
I have posted in the architecture category as I hope it details the dry stone walls and barns that abound in the Yorkshire dales - the limestone ridge is (I hope) an added bonus.
PP
Selected levels adjustment and USM.
Note: Have I oversharpened this shot? - if you view it from around 2 ft away from the screen it looks fine - but close up?
The original image was fine but sometimes I find compressing shots down to 200KB can affect both sharpness and colours - anyone have any advise on the best way to process for Trek Earth ?

Lovely scene from near Grassington. I like how clouds paint shades on parcels.
When it comes to sharpening, I don't think this photo is oversharpened. If you want to learn more about it there's lots to learn from the Forums - for example, you may try these...

Impressive clouds indeed,good contrasts.
As you I'm always afraid of 'oversharpening' but as it goes it seems I'm too shy with the sharpening tools.

Very dramatic sky. The diagonal lines of the stone walls give an extra dimension to the picture.

Hi, Steve.
Great subdued greens with a little autumn rust thrown in by the trees. I also dig the facte that the clouds, the type we sse almost everyday, are actually a very good tonal figure that add tremendously to your pix. This pix is "together". A little human presence would have been great too.
I also struggle with the pix i upload, after i PS and sharpened them. They do have more noise once uploaded than in my own album folder. Here, I think your sharpening is the correct one.

And now the stone walls are included and again, a spectacular light on the field, marvelous !
(For me, this one is not oversharpened...)

what a lovely landscape, the kind of place wwhere i would like to live.
So I guess your image must be good if i feel like this. great light.
about the sharpening, i suppose it depends on the screens peopel have.
On mine it's pretty good, not too much.

Beatuiful picture of this splendide landscape. A very good composition with this shade of green and the grey of the clouds.
Well done Stephen.

The image is divided as the landscape itself, in a geomertric way. Each parcel has its specificity and is pleasant to see. The cloudy background is another elemnt of interest. I like very much this image.

Great shot Stephen. The Yorkshire Dales is my favorite area in the country and you have captured the scene well. I can almost see the sunlit areas and shadows racing across the fields.
Hmm...maybe a couple more miles walking then a pint of Black Sheep and a sandwich in a warm pub... sorry started daydreaming then - back to work :o(
Well handled exposure and very nice tones in the dark sky.

This is another excellent landscape. It shares all the features of the previous shots. The walls make great lines to follow and form grids. The sheds offer nice little focal points along the paths through the scene. But the thing I really like about this is the sky. It's a bit darker and more angry which works beautifully with the bright green. Really stunning. The sharpening looks fine to me. Maybe it could be a bit softer but it doesn't look like it's too much to me.

nature is always charming for us~~! maybe due to the angle, this landscape look a mini world.. i guess the original image is much more clear and fresh colored than what it is ,maybe u can upload in another web site and make a link here:)

I like especially the light; 2nd the colors at par with the composition.
I don't see any sharpening haloos here so sharpening is Ok. The picture contrast is OK for print; slightly overexposed for screen.
PS: If I tweak my pictures, I save the end-result in TIFF and without any sharpening. I only apply sharpening after resizing.
JPG , Downsizing always gets you loss of detail. Sharpening also. I try to avoid loss on losses.
