Photographer’s Note
This Gypsy family was about to return to Gaziantep where they are now based, having taken part to the big festival of Hacibektas were lots of such families were gathering : I was explained that some were mainly there to share the ritual slaugtering and eating of sheeps taking place during the religious festivities as the meat was distributed around, but I can distinguish around the neck of the father the tiny jewel sword with the image of Ali, which is a sign that he is definitely an Alevi and was there to worship as well.
Yesterday I looked again at some links for photos that were given to me in Turkey and I saw with pleasure the same little girl at the end of the table, photographied on 2 occasions by Murat Yazar (= 25 photos sofar of "nomad gypsies") with whom we visited several camps, together with a French photographer, during the 2 days of the festival : splendid memories !...
(In the WS, a colourful, "appetizing" sheep from the same area, photo taken on the same occasion).

Hi Catherine,
An interesting picture of this travelling family. I like how the light splashes through the trees and half falls on the little girl's intrigued-looking face. The picture of the guy with the sheep hung around his neck is great too - I particularly like the skin tones and his welcoming smile. Well done, Casper :)

Ah - a fine documentary image - a moment of life beautifully captured - the passage and the passing of people and traditions through the European landscape somehow connects us to something more essentially human scale than the plugged in electronic gas guzzling ants nests most of us occupy.....and then 'we' de-value a way of life which for all its difficulties, has such other richness.
The light is wonderful.

very envolving image. I love how your subjects are positioned. This could be even more powerful had the woman not turned, causing motion blur.
The light-paches are another element that I really love here.
All the best

Amicalement a toi
Branko

Salut Cath,
Ta composition est très dense, ramassée même.
Elle est bien lisible mais un grand angle aurait pu aider.
Amitiés
Marc

good to see that you've come back with a life-like shot as before and different from those
recent and much "paparazzi" ones :)
dear Cath, you look good with real people...
as for the photo: splendid as usual.

Hi Catherine;
I like very much this picture because the nice family and the intense sunlight give a special atmosphere.
The lighting and color choosing are fine with excellent sharpness and detail.
Congratulations.

Hi Catherine
Sights like that are quite common here in Greece too with the Roms, as we call them. Your capture has this documentary style and the b/w really fits as it renders a classical air.
I really like it

Family scenes I do like the most of you. Especially in their natural surrounding - in homes mostly. But here... - as I come to think of nomad gypsies - here they are at home as well. Camping... Charming scene. And the one of yesterday I liked too. Was disappointed it disappeared ;))
Greetings T.
