Photographer’s Note

Meet Ermenejildo Arencibia Griñan, aka Wilky, a well-know character in the streets of Old Habana... How can you get unnoticed with such a face!

Reminiscent of the 81 bearded rebels led by Castro who plotted the Revolution, Wilky told me it takes only 7 months to make his beard grow to this extent, not that I would try it on myself, but you have to admit it looks good on him.

That beard is certainly something special, one could definately not miss such a character. What a great and friendly smile he gives you too and such a nice face with those laughing eyes, the hat completes the picture for this sharp portrait.

Un Look comme cela cela ne se loupe pas ! Tu as monté le cailloux qui tue pour obtenir un résultat hors du commun avec un piqué d'enfer et un bokeh au velouté difficilement égalable. J'ai moi même un Nikkor 50 f/1.2 qui donne des résultat fabuleux (avec le coefficient 1.5 ça donne une focale équivalente en FF). Le problème c'est que sa mise au point est manuelle, lors dur-dur ! Mais cela fait du bien de repasser à la vielle école de temps en temps.

Hello André,

C'est ce que j'appelle un portrait plein de gaieté. La moustache est l'élément impressionnant et presque drôle de l'image. Le cadrage serré apporte une allure captivante à ce visage souriant.

tu as le chic pour touver les "phénomènes" en tous genres. et ici le phénomène du jour a l'air bougrement sympathique !!! ce tres large sourire qui s'ouvre sur ces moustaches d'antanlogie est remarquablement mis en scène par tes soins. une superbe lumiere couronnant le tout.
seul petit détail, ce monsieur n'a pas le droit de boire la soupe au bol directement !!!

Sacré portrait que tu as reussi ici. Fallait chercher pour trouver un sujet comme celui la avec ces enormes moustaches blanches. Ca a de la gueule meme si je ne m imagine pas vraiment avec.

je ne suis pas capable de faire un commentaire aussi riche et que celui que tu as laissé sur ma dernière photo, en regardant ce portrait on ressent une parfaite connivence entre toi et cet homme hors du commun de part sa gigantesque moustache et son large sourire très communicatif, tu as réalisé un excellent portrait, le rendu de la peau est admirable.

Le portrait est superbe avec une belle lumière, une excellente netteté et une jolie complicité avec ton modèle. Ses larges moustaches sont vraiment hallucinantes, on dirait des oreilles de caniche, haha :) Ses yeux brillant de malice et son large sourire lui donne un air bien sympathique. Hi Andre,
Funny, very funny, i also have a picture of him with a big cigar in his mouth. Not taken in the best light, so therefor never posted it, but this one has that good light and that makes all the difference in the world. Instead of the cigar a great smile, which also looks much more natural that such a stupid in thing in his mouth. Therefor a great shot with that great lens. The bokeh is sooooooooooooooo smooth, soooooooooooo beautiful, that makes him famous...excellent..!!!

normally I`m not that much into portraits, they must either be technically absolutely perfect to impress me or the subject itself must be great. And yours has it all, technically perfect (I see you got the big brother of Henk`s lens) and this beard, priceless! It really screams for a picture! Great shot, I really like it! What a portriat of such a charactor, I would have just walk pass him and not notice anything, NOT! Excellent shot, every piece of hair is accounted for, that how details it is. Love his smile and the very engaging look of his eyes. The bear draw your attention the eyes and smile keep you there. Size does matter.

Bonjour, André. Ça doit être les plus belles moustaches que j'aie jamais vues sur TE. Impressionnantes. Et le sourire du bonhomme fait plaisir à voir. Les reflets du soleil sur sa peau ajoutent encore de la chaleur dans ce portrait. Une excellente mise au point. En bref, un très bon portrait.

je ne pouvais pas passer côté de ce magnifique portrait sans laisser un mot!Cet homme à une sacrée personalité,ce qui transparaît dans sa façon de porter le berêt,dans sa formidable moustache,et surtout dans son regard que rien ne semble pouvoir faire sciller,et son sourire éclatant!Le rendu sur la moustache et la touffe de cheveux est extraordinaire,et les couleurs sont superbes!Un grand portrait!

Maybe Obama will let us travel to Cuba, as have many of our Canadian family members. Great photo, the mustache is wonderful but what I really notice are those great teeth, I wouldn't be surprised if Cuba's dental care was better than tyhat of the US. Thanks for sharing the joy!!

L'oeil droit vitreux, les dents jaunes à souhaits, un visage jeune mais un regard plein de sagesse.
J'ai jamais vu une barbe pareille. Si j'avais de la barbe, c'est exactement ça que je ferais avec!! C'est trop fort!!
J'Aime le soleil réflétant sur sa peau un peu suante et les couleurs de sa chemise que l'on perçoit dans le bokeh.
