Photographer’s Note
How can one explain Music to deaf ears ?
Another visit to my friend Tuncay the gypsy, who is always broke : a soft and generous man with a large family to feed, at least he possesses the talent of entrancing people with his music, he is a master of his art.
This time, his cousin Aydin was there too : he is from a rich family (they told me), he arrived with a flashy car ; he is a great communicator thanks to his mimics and gestures but he was born deaf. He is single and seemed a bit sad, suffering (IMO) from loneliness and boredom.
I wonder which is the true richness in one's life... Please tell me what you think !
(NB : photo taken @ ISO 400 with my IXUS 90IS which is slightly better with light than my other IXUS 860IS but does not have a wide angle ; bleak and dreadful colours under the white and poor neon light, I had problems with sharpness and noise as well but could not resist this exchange between the cousins with opposite lives).

Bonjour Catherine,

Yves.

cath,
can i start with a quote from your intro: "I cannot consider myself as a 'photographer'" ... may i ask what exactly do you consider a photographer to be? ;o)
to me, you are a photographer. with a very good feel, a true observer, a 'capturer' of moments. your photography is about life. about its ephemere (but the only important) moments. you feel them like no other. you have empathy and that shows every step of the way. just like here.
i can "hear" the scene. i can "hear" Aydin. i don't know if he's suffering of loneliness and/or boredom. maybe. or maybe not. people which lack a 'sense' get more in others (not very correct in english but you know what i mean). there's always a balance. if he was born deaf then he doesn't know what/if he's missing. he can't compare ... ok, nevermind. i'm just guessing anyway. i hope he finds what he's looking for.
... the true richness in one's life? thought about it. and i think it comes in moments. and it comes in and after 'growth' as a human being. after (and while) you've been through joy and sorrow and pain and love and betrayal and winter and spring again. you have to go through many things and seasons to be able to finally get a glimpse of the rich beauty of life. you don't recognize it from the very beginning. i truly hope i get there one day ;o)
maybe people like Aydin learn all the lessons sooner the we, the (so called) luckier ones. i don't know. the more time goes by the less i know.
thanks for the moments, cath!

Not the presence of these two gypsies it's so important in this photo essay of yours as much as their interaction.
This standing one is a dude taken from the old oils of the past masters... That finger...
That pointed finger !
Is it possible to explain everything with the pointed finger ?
Obviously, so ! :-)))
It explains everything to me...

Hello Catherine,
It's incredible what a canon ixus can do. When I see some of your pictures I ask myself if we need big cameras and big lenses.
An amazing shot full of energy and life. I love the expressions and gestures very much, specially the pointing finger.
The local where the scene is taking place is also very interesting and charming.
Thanks for this beautiful picture.
Have a great weekend

PS: The true richness of life? If I would know Catherine... if I would know...
