Photographer’s Note
The impressive Chateau Frontenac stands majestic overlooking the St Lawrence river. This photo is taken from the Promenade des Gouverneurs - a walkway that stretches about 500 yards on the flank of the Citadel of Quebec, the fort that used to defend the city and the passage through the St Lawrence! Quebec City saw the key battle of the Plains of Abraham in 1759 when the English troops under Wolfe defeated the French under Montcalm, changing the course of history of Canada. Both generals died. Chateau Frontenac was built by the Canadian Pacific Railway company and opened in 1893. It is still one of the classic hotels in Canada and provides spectacular views over the St Lawrence.
