Kizkalesi castle Photo

Photographer’s Note

The castle at Kizkalesi (KUHZ-kah-leh-see, Maiden's Castle), between Alanya and Silifke on the Turkish Mediterranean, is just far enough out in the chill waters of the Turkish Mediterranean that strong swimmers can make it there and back without much worry.
But I prefered to stay at the coat with my tripod during the blue hour.

Hallo Andreas,
An almost surrealistic image, like the castle rises up from the ocean. That effect is even more enhnaced by the purple colours in the sky.
An intriging image...

Hello Leo,

Better than any postcard I've seen of "Kiz Kalesi," or "Maiden's Castle". Since you've been to Istanbul also, the name "Kiz Kulesi" in distinction, means the "Maiden's Tower." An alternative name for the latter is "Leander's Tower."

mir gefällt wie die Burg da alleine steht, umzingelt vom Wasser, das sieht echt klasse aus! Ein sehr schöner blue hour shot (verdammt, schon wieder ein Anglizismus ;-)) Beleuchtung ist wirklich sehr schön, genau wie dein Blickwinkel. Kann ich verstehen, dass du lieber hier geblieben bist, erstens hast du ein schönes Foto und zweitens willst du doch nicht deine Minolta nass machen ;-)

PS: Ich könnte auch nicht in so einer Stadt wie SF leben, aber als Fotomotiv eignet es sich super!

nice colour composition here, it might seem a problem with the horizon but its not. The geometry of the castle and some lines are a little weird but straight, I measured it.
Cool blue hour captured perfectly with the correct exposure.

In the low light so clear shot..using tripod worked as long as i see..I've seen so many photographes for Kızkalesi..But this is one of my favorites.Best regards..TFS.

It is amazing to see that there is not much space left around the castle. Everything as been taken. I like the view and the nice colours of the blue hour. Well done.
Now I have to Google in order to know a bit of its history and why did they built the castle on that tiny island.

You've framed it like a postcard, and it certainly could be one. It's a triumph of sharpness, perfect exposure and white balance. The soft movement of the sea contrasts well with the sharp castle.

Hehe, das ist ein total neuer Approach, Du erfindest Dich neu, und das ist ganz ganz cool. Ich mag klare "Zustaende", Meer, Schloss, Himmel. Fertig. Das Licht drueben ist natuerlich der Aufhaenger und die beruehmte Stunde gibt ein tolles Ambiente, ich sollte sie auch mehr nutzen, wenn ich das so betrachte, aber meistens habe ich dann schon kalt und will nach Hause :))) Aber ja, Du warst ja im Sueden und da scheint die Sonne noch etwas laenger und waermer. Froehliche Weihnachten im Oktober - es hat geschneit, das totale Chaos am Morgen, man waere gescheiter zuhause geblieben. Gruss ... Barbara.

L'ouvertuure couplée à la vitesse était suffisante pour ne pas transformer la mer en patinoire gelée.
Intéressante image à l'heure bleue, cela me fait penser au château d'If à Marseille ou le fort Briscou au Cap d'Agde.

l'heure bleue dans toute se spendeur; c'est un instant que TE m'a fait découvrir et qui est toujours si plaisante de savourer dans les photos postées...
là en plus le ciel et la mer se liguent pour nous envouter! ce petit fortin éclairé sans excès est parfait au milieu de ce bleu profond

This is a great image, almost looks like a mirage on the water. Really like how crisp the edges of the castle are against the dark blue background of the water and almost violet hues of the sky.
