Photographer’s Note

This is, perhaps, one of the "most classical" views of Stockholm. And, perhaps, very "typical" (almost "classical") clouded sky over Stockholm :)
Anyway, I just wanted to capture the mood of the day!

In the middle you can see Riddarholmskyrkan (The Riddarholmen Church) which is the burial church of the Swedish monarchs. It is located on the island of Riddarholmen, close to the Royal Palace.

It is one of the oldest buildings in Stockholm, parts of it dating to the late 13th century, when it was built as a greyfriars monastery. After the Protestant Reformation, the monastery was closed and the building transformed into a Protestant church.

A spire designed by Willem Boy was added during the reign of John II, but it was destroyed by a stroke of lightning on July 28, 1835 after which it was replaced with the present cast iron spire.

In the distance you can see Klara kyrka (the Church of Saint Clare) which is located on Klara Västra Kyrkogata in the Klara area in lower Norrmalm.

The convent and church of St. Clare was founded on the site in 1280s. Gustav Wasa had the church and convent torn down in 1527 and construction of the current church started in 1572 under Johan III.
