Photographer’s Note
Olympia has a small japanese garden. This maple tree stands about 4" tall. Without anything in the picture to give it scale, it looks a lot larger than it is. I took several versions of this picture with different apertures, but liked a rather large aperture the best. At a smaller aperture, too much of the background is clearly visible, which in turn made the photo look cluttered. I also used a tripod and a Nikon 70-200 mm lens.
