Photographer’s Note

For Cuban people it´s very important what happens in the neighborhood...social life is more intense than everywhere else, it seems. So I do a small series about Cubans watching other Cubans.

This one was taken in Trinidad, province of Sancti Spiritus, near the city center. Just some moments before sunset. At this time everybody is sitting in front of the house, chatting with neighbors.

Hallo Christian,
I told you before that your Cuba serie is one of the best here on TE. A consistent quality of images, not something we all can say. Most of your images are taken in warm evening or morning light which gives it a nice warm and moody glow over it.
Here is also a very good balance between the three on the right and the standing lady on the left. On here also lies the 2.8 sharpness and with her yellow dress she really pops out of the image....great.

Un excellent POV au ras du sol qui allonge encore les jambes de la fille. J'aime beaucoup cette composition et les teintes de la photo réchauffées par le soleil couchant.

hem hem yes indeed social life is important and well conveyed by your image but I guess most (male) viewers would be temptated to begin socialization on the left... A well balanced image well lit by the warm evening light.

Hi Christian

There's a beautiful soft light here. Well, the girl steals all my attention, she stands out compared to the little group of people on the other side. The composition is well balanced, and the colors pleases me well, specially her yellow dress matching with the color of the wall.

Hallo Christian! Ich komme wieder mit meinen Farben, aber die sind so total anders, dass man sie erwaehnen muss. Sie sind warm, sie sind tropisch, sie sind feurig. Ja stell Dir vor in der Schweiz, ich moechte nicht gerade sagen, dass Nachbarn sich nicht fuer einander interessieren, aber es bleibt oft eher distanziert, andererseits wenn man sich dann naeher kommt, dann dauert eine Freundschaft oft ewig und das ist auch ein Staerke. Trotzdem, ich denke, dass man sich alleine fuehlen kann, und das passiert hier auf Deinem Bild sicher nicht. Da ist man involviert und integriert. Sie hat eine tolle Figur, Deine "Femme fatale" ... das muss man neidlos zugeben :))))))))) Liebe Gruesse ... ein spannender Abend ... Barbara.

mi piace moltissimo questa composizione, non solo perchè ci fai vedere la bella ragazza di spalle, ma soprattutto per la luce calda che hai dato all'immagine. L'assenza di tanti dettagli concentra l'attenzione sulle persone che sono il vero soggetto della foto, facendoci vedere un'aspetto della vita quotidiana in quel Paese. Eccellente, come sempre, la qualità tecnica della foto. Bravissimo

When I open your Cuban shots from thumbnails, I often have the feeling that the heat is more intensive than from the the chimney :)
Warm light, beautiful bodies from the place where anybody doesn't like to exaggerate with number of useless outfits on..
Everything builds extremely sensual atmosphere of the paradise-lost being observed by your hidden eye.

Hi Christian,

Cuba through your lenses is such a soft world of most warm ambient and people. Maybe is the light with its warm tones...or focus...or maybe is a man behind the camera who loves photography. They all have your signature. It is such a beautiful daily life photo, so gentle...a real compliment for photographed subjects and their environment.

Sicuramente l'idea di guardare chi guarda è interessante, ma ( come scrisse già Igor Crovato usando l'espressione - Mettere le modalità porco in off - ) devo dire che l'occhio si posa sulla straordinaria lunghezza delle gambe della ragazza...
Foto adatta ad un pubblico maschile ;.)

Hi Christian,
This shot is well balanced out with the two windows and the two lots of people, the group and the single girl. Great the way they are all looking in one direction, and I like the model like stance of the girl. Splendid warm light to blend with the orange tones.

fabulous work, I liked the way how personages are put in the scene, the windows adds lots of nice shapes and light is soft and warm, every people are nicely well shown like in a painting. If each people are ever thinking about their neighbors is something like the place where I live, a little town, something good and not good at same time

So richtig kalt ist es bei uns auch nicht, ganz im Gegenteil, die Klimaerwärmung - aber vorm Haus sitzt auch (noch) keiner. Genau das macht die Cubaner so symbatisch! Dein Foto löst bei mir Fernweh aus, es gefällt mir so!!!

Like everybody here, I must say that the restitution of the colors and the light is stunning. But... I don't know, to tell you the truth I wish the three people on the right weren't there. Only the elegant black silhouette in her mysterious pose (what is she looking at?), the two windows and the yellow wall would have be sufficient for the pleasure of my eyes. And it would have been like an echo to your other (nice)picture : "the slim girl". But well, you wasn't of course responsible for it.

Hi Christian,

Interesting note that goes perfectly with what is going on in your photo, we can have a feeling of the importance of the hood you are talking about.

The pose of her body can't hide her interest and awareness of whatever take places. Good balanced photo, excellent light from the end of the day, low and flattering. Colours are also boosted by the warm rays. Mucho calores... :-P)

Good work! The picture has really good composition, exposition and light colour. I really wonder to what these people are looking at! The girl on the left side really looks like an athlectic girl (perfect body) and captures the viewer's attention.

Hey Chris,
Good take of a street happening...you sure captured the essence of the street, with a good balance of a dominant standing lady on the left and the sitting and idle company on the right. This balance is also the conceptual contrast that create tension and curiosity in the picture in the form of questions such as "who" and "what"...A good decisive moment and well seen image.
I've increased local contrast to pop out more of the colorful house walls...

It suppose to be cloned out ( an extremely easy task)...
Why - you may ask ?
Because that's the ONLY ONE flaw in this otherwise, excellent piece.
