Photographer’s Note

Taken on the sealed road between Ubud and Kintamani. It was lunchbreak and the kids were buying sodas and juice.

The trick with retouching in PS for me is that I edit on a notebook and post from a different computer. The screens show different contrast, etc.

beautiful portrait Caleb, the girl is beautiful and her smile is very charming. maybe her face is a bit dark and the background is too bright, but that's the light you had.. maybe using fill-flash would be a good idea here, but I am not good at it so i am not sure about it either ;) anyway,. very nice picture

nice focus and color for this young girl;-) a very tender and shy smile! nice shot! i do not agree with maciek at all. i think the light on her face is perfect given the very light BG... it looks all very real to me;-)

The background is a bit distracting, definitely "swearing" a bit behind her, but that's what you got, and there's plenty to enjoy in her expression.

She looks immaculate in her uniform but the light enhances the color of her dark skin. The context is well-included too with that school building in the background.

I would agree with Maciek and say that I do feel the light on her face is slightly low. It could be corrected in photoshop. Fill flash maybe a better option though. Nice portrait though... you captured a good expression Caleb. Good details and colors too.

A pretty little girl, very pleased to have her photo taken :).

You need to increase the exposure on the face - background is ok, but the face is too dark. You can do it in the RAW control panel on Photoshop CS. Or on earlier Photoshops, you can do it by making a selection of the face (about 50 pixels) and then getting a Curves layer and adjusting the curve upwards.
