Little African Eskimo Photo

Photographer’s Note

I like to switch from Landscape shots of the Europe and the North America to some other shots from other parts of the world, portraits perhaps wildlife and landscape.

While visiting Mount Kenya area, we visited several small towns. We arranged to stay a night with a local farmer to experience how the people live. This is somewhat higher up in the mountain area, the weather is much cooler up here than I ever imagined, good I have a jacket with me, I was more prepared for warm weather rather than cold. As you see this little boy is very well covered up with this thick outfits, looks like a little African Eskimo, hence the title. This is heavily cropped to focus in on the boy in a classroom, therefore not as sharp as I like it to be, but I like the timid look of the boy.

I love the title. It's a very beautiful portrait of this child. I didn't realise that there were places in Kenya where people needed such winterclothes.

Hello Way, it is unusual portrait from Africa. Everyone would expect rather naked boy than in a thick cap. Very nice photo of a timid boy. nice memories from the journey.

these are the portraits that I love and I prefer. The eyes of this child make to speak the photo. The light of the flash, perfectly dosed, it pleasantly reflect on face and on the eyes emphasizing the colors. Really beautiful, sincere compliment!

when I saw the picture,I had to look 2 times to be surethat it was in Kenya!I couldn't imagine that they have so cold weather in this country!But why not,the mountains are very high,so the weather can be cold!This little boy is so lovely with the white fur framing his black face!I love his shy expresion and his large black eyes with a small light inside!Superb!

very nice the portrait of this boy with his jacket on the Mount Kenya area,in Africa.I was surprised when i saw for first time the little boy to wear a jacket,but reading your informative note,i understood the reason.I like his timid look,as the good management of the lights.Well done.

a very nice portrait; informative too - not that often we see pictures from africa with someone dressed like an eskimo. but i do remember myself: hitting a SNOW-STORM in the atlas mountains... love his eyes: perfect focus!

Sorry I haven't stopped by recently, hope things are well? This is a great decisive shot, I can't believe this boy is in a warm looking jacket. The skin-tones are superb with perfect contrasts and definition. The expression is first rate. Some of the posts of children recently have not been the best in my opinion, this does not fit into that category however.

Hello Way! What a cute little eskimo you found on the black continent, and I was just about to ask if this was not too warm for him wearing a winter jacket but we always forget that Africa has mountains too and this means cooler temperatures. So cute how the white of his eyes stick out and he seems a little shy not really sure if he should trust you and the rest of the world. Very nice portrait, full of charme ... Not the usual temperature one associates Kenya with. The white fur lining contrasts with his skin tones as he gives you a deep look. His timid look is also a good point in this attractive portrait!
