Switzerland Thai Style Photo

Photographer’s Note

On Friday night my mouth was burning thanks to a chicken & green curry dish I was eating in a little Thai restaurant. On the walls, there were photos of the king of Thailand and I decided that I should post this photo.

This pavilion, inaugurated in September 2007, is situated in Denantou park opposite Lake Geneva in Lausanne. It's a present from the Thai government in honour of the 60th anniversary of the accession to the throne of King Bhumibol Adulyadej and in commemoration of the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Thailand and Switzerland. Why Lausanne ? Because the king lived and studied here.

Vendredi soir, ,ma bouche brulait à cause du poulet au curry vert que je dégustais dans un petit resto thaï. Sur les murs figuraient des images du roi de la Thaïlande et je pensais que je devrais poster cette image.

Hi Nikki
The mention of Thai curry is making my mouth water! This colourful pavilion looks pretty authentic to me, even if the surrounding vegetation looks rather more green than would be expected for the real thing. The wide angle stretches the image a bit but the overall effect is charming and the person gives an indication of scale.

Hi Nikki,
Strange photo to see something like this in Swiss, never heard of that. But your excellent note explains why and how. My first thoughts that the human element should not be there, but i chance my mind, it belongs there for a better balance from the left side...clever composed.
Deep colours dear Nikki, just as i like to see them....very good.

Decidement il y a tout sous la main a Lôsanne, tu veux manger thai, paf t'as un petit pavillon qui va bien pour aller avec, et aussi des conditions revees pour visser a donf ton accessoire prefere, belle compo, reste plus qu'a aller la refaire avec ton nouveau jouet pour voir si le rendu est different.

Una imagen que uno no supondría de Suiza. Me gusta el contraste entre los colores del pabellón y el verde dominante, sobre todo. Una imagen con mucha luz para el invierno que se acerca!

Hello Nikki,

Etonnante architecture que l'on a pas souvent l'habitude de voir en Suisse.
L'image donne une belle importance à ce temple qui contraste magnifiquement avec la végétation alentour.

Hi Nikki.
The deep saturation and the very wide angle view with slight distortion, give this a sort of other-worldly feel. The fact that it's in Switzerland only adds to that, but I think you've done some shots like this before, of oriental things in the Swiss setting. Am I right? Anyway, it's a very striking image. I like the way the path turns in the bottom right corner.

Bonjour Nikkis, une image magnifique de contraste et des couleurs naturelles sous une lumière qui aide bien pour réussir une belle photo le ciel hautement polariser complète bien l'ensemble, un bon placement du pavillon ou il semble catalyser toute belle lumière des environs de Lausanne, les dorure et l’exposition idéal donne des couleurs idéalement saturées, cette merveilleuse architecture ne dénote pas au milieu de toute cette belle verdure, bien amicalement

Hello Nikki,
Un joli batiment et des forts couleurs: tout ce qui me plait.
C'est en effet inattendu ce batiment thai en Suisse, mais il s'insere bien dans son cadre.
Par contre, je ne suis pas trop sure pour l'homme car il me parait un peu tordu pour l'objectif.

I like this well considered composition. The presence of the human element gives us an idea on the size of this pavilion and a touch of life to this photo. The polarized colours looks very pleasing. I wonder if the person in tilted position is due to wide angle lens distortion as seen in the building? An excellent work.
