Photographer’s Note
This is the Tagong Lamasery in the grasslands north of Kanding in Western Sichuan Province. On the hill behind the tower on the right is a sky burial. In a larger image, you can see the birds circling around. The monks here were very friendly and hospitable even asking one of the older monks to open the main hall for us.
I stitched together 5 vertical images in photoshop; from negative scans.

Hi Mike,
Five vertical Pentax K1000 images stiched? What a job! I like the result. The sharpness on the right is by far the best of the picture, but the whole is impressive enough. The bl/w gives it a timeless feeling, not inappropriate for a shot of 12 years old.
Strange how the scene looks so sunny and hot, even though it was shot in December. I'm sure it must have been cold up there.
Tagong is one of those places I check in every new China guidebook update, hoping it won't get too much attention. I was there in 2001 and absolutely loved it.

Hi Mike,
A great panoramic wide view showing us the layout of this interesting place. I read a book about sky burial and it is fascinating. Pentax K1000 the camera I started with and still use for my black and whites on all my trips. Nice.
