Photographer’s Note

Portitsa Bridge.

The most known stone bridge in Grevena prefecture.
Magnificent scenery, created by the deep gorge and the maintained bridge!
Venetikos River passes beneath the arches of the bridge. Its structure completed in 1743. The wide arch is 13,80 m. long and the narrow 5 m. Its total length is 34 m. the width 2,70 m. and the height 7,80 m.

This is a great shot of this fine bridge. The lighting and colors are great with excellent sharpness and detail. The angle of the shot is fine providing nice depth and direction.

Μόλις τώρα είδα το © 2008 - All rights reserved,και πήγα στην αρχική σελίδα και διάβασα για το ατύχημα που είχες.Σου εύχομαι καλή ανάρρωση σε σένα και την οικογένειά σου.Σε τέτοια ήσυχη μέρα είχα και εγώ ένα παρόμοιο ατύχημα πριν δέκα χρονια.
Πολύ καλή καταγραφή της τοξωτής γέφυρας στην Πορτίτσα.Το μέρος φαίνεται ειδυλλιακό και πραγματικά αξίζει να το επισκευθεί κανείς.

It is not the first image I see from this amazing place, but one can't get tired of this view!
Both what is manmade and what is made by nature is really impressive, and the ancient bridge stands well on background of the gorge...
Good point of view, a balanced composition with fine details!

Πανέμορφο γεφύρι σε πανέμορφο μέρος. Πολύ καλό κάδρο με σκληρό κοντράστ. Και στα μέρη μου έχει παρόμοια φαράγγια αλλά αυτός ο συνδυασμός με το γεφύρι είναι ανεπανάληπτος.

Hi Athanasios,
Very scenic place indeed, that gave you (and us) a beautiful photo. I confess that it took a while to understand that the vertical stripe behind the bridge is actually a narrow gorge, because for a moment it looked like a strangely brighter piece of rock. The bridge is very picturesque also and the that clear blue and green water is dreamy.

Πανέμορφο το μέρος, πανέμορφο το γεφύρι και βεβαια εξαιρετικό το κάδρο σου. Αν και ξέρω τον ποταμό από την διαδρομή Γρεβενά-Καλαμπάκα, δεν έχω δει ποτέ το γεφύρι, βάζω όμως bookmark για μελλοντική επίσκεψη.

Ευχομαι να είστε πλέον όλοι εντελώς καλά μετά το ατύχημα που είχατε...

Here I come Athanasios...
1.My monitor is calibrated using a hardware device called Spyder Pro so I dare to say that the photo seem to bright and too desaturated,for that reason.
I can also notice some oversharpening but I might be wrong about that,too.Sharpening is like a tooth brush:very personal:)
On the other hand, the composition is quite good,you made me see the whole scene.
Hmmmm...Ini, mini, myni, mo...half a smiley for this one:)

What a beautiful place!! You have really framed it well capturing the lovely bridge between the gorge behind and the river in front. You light management is sexcellent, capturing the colors in the bright gorge but also showing the beatiful colors in the darker foreground as well.

Greece has such a wide range of beauty. We took a bus across the north of Greece. I knew there were beautiful places and I so longed for a car.

This is the kind of places that I would love to visit and spend a day with camera and to get into the water. You have presented the view very nicely from this POV to show the gap of rock formation and water flowing through, the bridge in a good link across the gap.

This is a fine TE post of learning about the world through photography.

Lovely bridge in a very interesting place as we can see that behind it this gorge is very high and narrow, so you have found a good pov to show that, the greens from the water are subtle but lovely and the quality is very good for a scan.

το thumbnail την αδικεί πολύ, το θεωρώ περιτό να σχολιάσω το τοπίο και την σύνθεση γιατί είναι άψογα. Όσον αφορά την έκθεση ίσως να ήθελε λίγο λιγότερο φως, αλλά δεδομένου οτι είναι φιλμ και δεν βλέπεις άμεσα τα ιστογράμματα και την φωτογραφία σου και πάλι πολύ καλή δουλειά.

Ελπίζω να μην χρειάστηκε να βρεχτείς για να τραβήξεις τη φωτογραφία :-)

Hi Athanasios,

yes, I agree, it is most charming and beautiful scenery. The rocks in the background are grandiose, the narrow passage is so tense and overwhelming...it feels like rocks will merge just in a moment. The bridge seems to be a part of nature, it feels like it has been here even before the man. Its ages are felt through the greenery groing from it. The river has most stunning green colouration and it is in perfect harmony with green surroundings. Everything is in perfect harmony.

Sai che anche da noi abbiamo un ponte simile a questo? Si trova nel parco della Caffarella, in provincia di Lucca, in Toscana e viene detto "il ponte del diavolo". Comunque qui il paesaggio è bellissimo, fantastiche le gole che si vedono sul fondo!

Athanasios, this is a beauty, the cleft in the rock showing the view to a secret place is awesome. That the face of the rock is so vertical and the shape of the bridge you have succeeded in showing a real world fantasy place. Great color and detail, great capture.
