Photographer’s Note

Philharmonic Reflection.

"The Philharmonie" is the main concert hall of Haarlem.
It is the residence of the Holland Symphonia orchestra with Otto Tausk as chief conductor.

The original building is from 1872 and designed by Adrianus van der Steur.
After the renovation in 2001 the building is called “De Philharmanie”. The architect of the rennovation is: de Achitecten Cie

The renovation and restoration of 2001 was a radical metamorphose. The new building is a perfect symbiosis between old and new. The original building has been transformed into a modern Music-centre.

"A strangled influence of modernism in the last century had ruined the building. The Concertgebouw was degenerated to characterless rooms by the drastic demolition of neo-classical ornaments and innumerable renovations."

The new, modern glass facade (the mirror in this picture) is designed by Karel Martens and is a graphical reproduction of the composition ”De klokken van Haarlem” (the bells of Haarlem) of the international famous Dutch composer Louis Andriessen. This composition is based on the Damiate-melody that is playing for ages of the carillon of the neighbouring st. Bavo church.
These church is reflected in these facade.

Dag Rob,

Ik denk Rob dat u moest kunstenaar geworden zijn, u weet steeds zaken te projecteren wat anderen gewoon niet zien.
Hier opnieuw deze weerspiegeling van de toren in een samengepakt glas met lover draps, en dan nog gelankeerd door een mengeling van diverse kleuren.
Op dit momentbent u reeds een artist, goed gedaan Rob. Bedankt.

Une photo graphique pleine de géométrie. Une réflexion que l'on devine plus qu'on ne la voit. Un cadrage très étudié, et un léger tilt qui décale les horizontales en obliques, c'est bien pensé.

Hi Rob,

A fantastic and graphically appealing shot. The colours and reflections are superb. I read with intrest that you say that a perfect symbiosis between old and new. Even if I could not see it in this picture I know perfectly what you mean. I beleive that it is very important in city planning and that you see many horrible examples of the opposite. Hi Rob,
Een prachtige spiegeling van het silhouette van de Bavo in de kleurrijke glasgevel van de nieuwe Philharmonie. Met een prachtig diagonaal patroon er dwars doorheen.

belle photo de ce batiment au mille reflet, bon le titre, il tombe très bien après la précédente photo sur le Jazz.

Olá Rob, another wonderful graphic composition for your collection. All these lines remind me of alternative languages. It could be morse, musical score or any other invented for movies like 'The Matrix'...
