Photographer’s Note
As I got home today I saw some great clouds and colours in the sky. So I rushed around getting my camera stuff together (I couldn't find my new Canon remote for a while!). I jumped in the car and headed for Calton Hill where you get a great view over the city center.
On the way I seemed to get stuck behind every person in Edinburgh who couldn't drive. Somebody stalled in front of me! I kept looking at the sky and seeing the blue hour slowly give way to darker clouds. I just couldn't get there fast enough! (Btw, I was still driving safely!)
When I got there, the road up Calton Hill was closed and I didn't want to walk up in the dark.
So thats when I found this point of view. You can see the train station in the middle here and the castle up at the top left of the image.
In the end I was quite happy with the colours and the clouds!
Please let me know what you think!
P.S. For some reason the Exposure time hasn't been recognized. It was 20 seconds!

Hey Blair,
Captured very carefully with excellent composition and exposure. I prefer a little brighter exposure at +1/2 or +2/3 in this image size of 800x524 pixel, because appropriate exposure varies in the size. This motif seems to have come from "The Great Gig In The Sky" in The Dark Side Of The Moon.

Excellent night shot, I like the mixture of golden and dark blue and the star effect of the lights...

Hi Blair,
To be honest...you were too late..!!!
It's to dark in at the bottom right corner, no more detail. If there was some light in that part you had to raise the exposure much longer, maybe even up to 2 or 3 minutes. That would make the center to bright, but with an extra shorter exposure you could use both expsoures and paste them together...kind of fake hdr touch.
But, as said, the center is perfect luminated, the tracks are shining, light is wonderful there, just as we see the light coming through the windows on the far left. F18 gave you beautiful stars, that's good, i like that.
Shine on ;-)

Hi Blair,
ah, a new one, great! And another blue hour thing, the image is well composed and even though I would have cropped a bit of that dark part of the image, I lvoe the star effect and the sky. Good work!
Take care

Hi Blair,
A great view of Edinburgh from a superb POV. The illuminations of the city are beautiful, although the foreground is a little too dark (but I know there's not much to be done about that). I really like the contrast of the warm tones of the city with the nice dark blue sky. Thanks for sharing!

Lars

Hi Blair,
Nice night shot! A bit on the soft side further away. Could have been a tad sharper if you went for f/22 and 30 seconds I guess. And lay the focus point a bit further away. Seems like you focussed on the first lights of the train hub.
Still a nice night shot in composition!
Greetings,
Dennis
