Photographer’s Note
The Pas de Cheveres (ladders), above Arolla in the Swiss canton of Valais.
Near the Refuge de Dix, after crossing the Glacier du Cheillon you are faced with two options before the descent to the village of Arolla: a long steep loose scramble to a higher pass, or a short sharp ascent up 22m of almost vertical ladders.
The climber is about to traverse from the lower ladders onto the final shorter section.

I know the angle of the scree is emphasised by the POV but this does look an "interesting" ascent, probabaly better in the doing than the looking.
This really brings out the sense of exposure and the contrast of colours of the ladder, rucsac and climber with the greys of the rock.

A really scary view, David, made a little more reassuring by the grasses on the right. A lovely range of greys and pinks, with the dark tones on the left giving balance.
Best wishes,
Winifred

Watch that last step! Exciting photo, David. Love it. The grin on the climbers face adds a twist of humour...I am thinking "is he a madman or what?" and wish I was him...(lol) Nice use of perspective...dizzying and fun.
