Photographer’s Note
This photo was taken in the central court area of the Dubai Festival City shopping mall, which has a interesting zig zag stair case as it's major feature. Water also flows down the sides of the walls, shown in the image, from the top of the stairs at a height of about 30 metres. Water is generally utilsed in most of the architectural developments, as it is a symbol of life in the Arabic culture.
I don't often use B and W format, but in this case I felt that it helped focus purely on the architectural lines of the stairs, as well as the Arab man in his traditional dress.
Asthe light was not fantastic for photography inside the mall, I did push the ISO up slightly to 200,as I did not hace a tripod with me.

Hi Grant,
The ISO creates no problems for me, I see no noise, but that never troubles me in Black/White, anyway. The nice vertical lines coming to a sharp "V" make a good contrast for the man in traditional clothing. His expression also intrigues me.

Hello Grant,
I know very well that black and white can are very nice, but I am not fan, perhaps one tip, place your colour picture as WS, than can everyone make a choice.
Your subjectis very well, through the graphical V form, there between a man, this make your picture attractive.
Very well done, TFS.
Have a nice weekend,
John.

Hey Grant,
a good visual idea, reinforced by the B&W. The result is an appealing mix between modernism and tradition. I like it.

Hello Grant,
The black and white does give it a very powerful contrast! Though I do not see the water running down anymore. I do like the placement of your subject and all the rest is nicely minimalistic and graphical. Nice work!

Hi Grant,
A nice graphic one enhanced by the black and white, and I like the lines forming an arrow pointing in the direction which the man is travelling. Nice textures too.

hi Grant,
great shot, and I absolutely agree with you decision to have it in B&W, any colour here would distract from the strong patterns and textures. I might prefer the man slightly more to the left, so the lines in the background would not cross his head, but that's a minor point.
best,
Kristine

I especially like the effect of the geometric lines, broken by the symbolic "Arab man"
Thank you for the "your's first post"

Hello grant, a nice composition. You had a good eye to spot and place the human figure to break the geometry of the lines

only the lines of the building would produce a nice and very graphic compo but the inclusion of this man using his typical clouth adds lots of beauty and interest to this image. I guess it is a symbol of Dubay

Ciao Grant!
Veramente notevole la forza di questa immaggine! Interessante gioco di linee e spazi, magnifica la figura che emerge dalla diagonale! Buona la soluzione del white and black.
Saluti, Nino.

Une belle image graphique de scène de vie. J'aime beaucoup le noir et blanc qui est bien contrasté.
Je me demande, si la photo n'aurait pas encore été meilleur en déclenchant une seconde plus tard.

But You took the photo in a very good moment.
I like a frame, your model and the b&w work.
