End of summer season Photo

Photographer’s Note

The seasons are popularly considered to start at the equinoxes and solstices based on astronomical reckoning. Thus, in the Northern hemisphere, based on astronomy, summer ends on the September equinox. Actually summer (and the bathing season) ended this year already in the mid of August. Summer is an important season for outdoor activity, but the unrelenting wet weather in August drove people indoors. Soon the local fire and rescue service will keep the water slide safe and dry in its depot until the next season starts. The lake is once again the Lake Wittensee. This lake app. 100 Km north of Hamburg is nearly square with clear fresh water.

Now we are hoping for an Indian summer, with some sunny, warm weather!

Bonjour Harriet,
I was lucky to have a Mediterranean summer between Spain and Greece and I am really happy of it!
I like this photo, almost surrealist, there is a slide but there is also the reflection. So, two slides which have for companions of games only the blue lake and the white clouds. And it is so more beautiful than tourists' hundreds!
Congratulations, it's beautiful!

what an interesting curious composition... it consists of geometric mirror-like reflections of shapes... but... it's difficult to define what exactly reflects and repeats what :)
Looks like the trees are connected with the structure in the water via the line of clouds!
in any case, very original observation!

I like the symbolism of "sliding into winter", lucky for us spring is just starting to influence the weather, today bright sunny skies and 25 degrees.
Very graphic image, the slide looks to be so out of place in the water. Very beautiful reflection of the slide the clouds and the trees. The composition gives the image visual balance.
Superb capture, very well spotted.

Quite a minimalistic compo with the shape of the toboggan and its reflection adding geometrical figure in the natural environnement. The still water surface gave extra sharp reflection!

Hello Harriet,
Our bathing season ended 2nd August. Since then only 4 days when day maximum temperature has exceeded 20 C. Cloudy and rainy end of summer.
I like this photo. The lonely water slide in a serene lake symbolises the end of summer very well. The slide looks like floating on the water surface. Very good reflections of the slide/trees/reds and beautiful light. Great capture!
I checked the lake in Google Maps. It indeed is almost perfectly square. :)

Honestly the thumbnail could not show this fine ladder and slide but you have isolated the view so nicely here with the flood water so calm and still as to make a fine reflection under blue sky and a fine day.

A perfect image to convey the mood of the end of summer. The slide is devoid of laughing people, the place looks deserted, yet all is still and silent. The gentle colours and light make this one very appealing to me. It looks like the small point of land is merging with the slide and its reflection. Very nicely done.

A fine farewell to summer !
The lighting indicates clearly that it is not so warm anymore , the absence of people still more !
The reflections in the water are great !

Nevertheless this place is perfect for a rest to remember all the fun people had just here !

Indian summer...Well , yesterday we had something like that .
When I have finished my NZ contribution , I will probably post one or two from the past nice and warm days here in DK .

Le temps s'est arrêté, l'été s'en va comme se sont éloignés les baigneurs, les promeneurs, les visiteurs. La saison reprend ses droits et le toboggan (très joliment photographié) regrette les cris des enfants lors des glissades.
Une très jolie composition emplie de poésie.
