Zion NP

The walk up the Narrows is one of the highlights of Zion. This alcove is found about a little over a mile up the river from where you first step in the water. Good lighting for the alcove only lasts for an hour or so each day. You need to be there when the sun is reflecting off the opposite wall but before it gets too far overhead, lighting all of the canyon. I almost missed it this day and had to place the camera to avoid some hot spots.

I was up in here once again 6 weeks ago...
GREAT job, by all means. I know how difficult it is to come up with a good shot in this specific spot, I overexposed (AGAIN!) most of mine... therefore : my most sincere compliments!

That wall of gold is splendid and I just love all the textures with the pebbles and rocks and all the chocolaty brown colours surrounding it. Very nice angle of view too to get this all in.

hello Allan,
I was attracted by the colours, and after opening the thumbnail was not disappointed. love the warm glow, the walls of the canyon look as if made from amber. the sunlight on the far wall creates a good sense of depth, and I like a lot the tight framing that creates a feeling that the walls are closing in around my head :) superb light management, excellent photo.

A very good photo indeed. The hue of gold on the rock caused by the sun is wonderful. Then you make the composition even better with the slow film speed effect on the water in the foreground great POA. Keep up the good work.

Hi Allan:

Nice shot of the Narrows. That bit of light on the alcove is fabulous--way to be in the right place at the right time. The upper half of this shot seems sharp, but the bottom half does not--not sure why that is.
