Photographer’s Note

Inspired by Helen Matten (Helkoryo) and this week’s Friday theme on TrekLens, “5 Minutes from Home” — as well as by Bob Shannon (egshannon) of TN and TL fame, and his recent montage — I wondered what I had 5 minutes from home that would meet the requirements of all three Treks. I went out with my camera and that in mind this afternoon. The results are being simultaneously posted on my TrekLens, TrekNature, and TrekEarth accounts. I’ll be interested in your thoughts as to how well it all worked.

These shots are taken from the four points of the compass and show the changing character of the historically rural countryside in my town. To the south, the main thoroughfare, College Ave., has become Anytown, USA, complete with strip malls and fast food joints. To the east, some ducks still visit ponds close by, but those ponds flow through subdivisions, not farms, these days -- in fact, this shot is right beside a huge stormwater pipe. To the west, farms remain, but there's one right down the street from here that says, "For Sale: Office Park sites." To the north, Highway 41, connects our area to Green Bay (or southward to Milwaukee). It's getting steadily bigger and busier...and appears destined to become part of the federal interstate system.
