Photographer’s Note
Boogy Boarders ready to jump into Lake Michigan Swells. Wave after Wave of storms rolled southward down the lake that day. I expect tons of different cropping suggestions and that is a bird in the air (not a fish). Tell me what you think. Thanks, JB

amazing shot, and u know it....the wave effect is wonderful, blurring the guy and making him dissapear inside..the front also works great in the blurry mood but I would adjust the saturation.
one more last thing I think in b&w this could also look amazing!
very well done

A superb photograph, everything you have framed strengthens the feeling of a howlig wind blowing right to left. Firstly and obviously the water spraying into the boarder, but also his posture, bracing himelf for the blast, the wet sunlit streaks on the pier and the bird trying to keep into the wind. The light quality is fantastic, and the composition is perfect.

Eh bien, on ne coupe pas! Et ce n'est pas moi qui irai me lancer à l'eau dans l'état où est la mer! Le réalisme est prenant, les couleurs superbes. Great shot!

The lighting and focus is a bit 'wierd' in this one (any post-processing?), but I do like it, maybe for that very reason. Having the wave behind the surfer is inspired as it acts to frame him.

Very good photo. Composition is great, there are many things to look at, but still the photo is balanced. You said that you expect ' tons of cropping suggestions' but i cannot think of one. The objects would get closer to the edges, giving a cramped feeling that is of no use in this photo. For example, cropping of a piece of the top would make the bird stand out, it would be the only object with limited space around him - not very good. If you really want to crop the top, then crop the bird as well away. I prefer this photo uncropped.

As you suggested, I tried different croppings, taking in account that there is some leeway on your original on the left and the right. Was not satisfactory, because what's making this shot is the leading stones to the boarder, then the beacon. Don't change anything. It's a super shot, quite surrealistic due to the extreme colors, contrast, textures, and certainly sharp post-processing. It's full of atmosphere and very strong with these furious waters. The bird adds some mystery to the scene.

Fantastic shot and what a sport! The waves and the guy are just wonderful, almost unreal.
My only suggestion as to cropping would be to crop the top halfway between the bird and the top of the picture. See Workshop, I think it gets the bird to be part of the scene not just a lost bird in the sky.

Just love the stormy feel of this pic.The dark colours of the sky and the brightness of the breaking wave, and the fact that the surfer is there lends a slight unrealness to it.
would lve to have on wall framed at a large size

Great work John. Such an unusual shot and wonderfully photographed! I would have liked it sharper though, to be almost perfect...

Beautiful shot JB! I love the contrast between the warm light reflection in the foreground and the dark cold threatening sky in the background. I would not change a thing!

Man what a shot! Timing is everything in life as in photography. I think that croping off a third of the walkway would be a nice effect.
Good job.

This is a wonderful shot... painterly, the bird in the sky is flying against the wind; man sitting and hit by a passing wave. Was there any post-processing? The colours seem quite amazing. Wow.

No cropping is necessary, I think this is an amazing picture, it looks posed, very nice.

Hola John. Una composición muy buena, me gusta la foto tan vertical porque es muy concreta y me agradan mucho los detalles de la foto no solo el agua junto al boarder sino también el ave en el cielo y el faro al final. Es una foto bastante dinámica, muy buen trabajo.
