Photographer’s Note
"the other side" (down to the earth, sulfur odor in your nose...) of the grand prismatic spring shown in larger scale earlier today by Avene. my shot was taken quite late in the evening, hence the stronger hint of red in the bacterial deposits by the spring. i was quite lucky to get this light since for two days after it was raining and snowing heavily, whereas on our last day, the air temperature was so low that excessive steam cover precluded efficient closeups.
by the way, the grand prismatic is the largest hot-spring in the US and the third largest in the world...

the 2-point green devil in this particular case stands for "green with envy". why oh why didn't I see the potential of this point of view?!... love the photo, the 3D clouds and crazy colour creates quite a menacing feeling, like something from sci-fi/biological catastrophe movie. the textures are amazing, but I particularly like the sweeping motion of the coloured curve. great shot, my compliments.

K.

Hi Kristaps. I enjoyed Kristine's POv as the blue was stunning. Your version is more sombre and it is more dynamic as it brings us closer to the action (and smell). The sky is most dramatic and fits this primordial scene well. regards. Klaudio.

A beauty! Comp, colors, mood, lines are all spot on.You managed to minimize the people in the shot and the foreground is stunning.

Hi Kristaps,
you and Kristine always come together with the same level work. Impressive landscape, lovely wide view and intense colors. I hope to see more of that in the next posts. Great job indeed!

Excellent Kristaps, the sky looks like it was made just for this picture, it is awesome. The low angle works well also. Color and detail is great as always, fantastic capture.

Hello Kristpas! I heard that you two "fight" for best spots :) Amazing place and it looks like a huge wound to me. I love the steam coming up in the back and that you get a clear view of the hot pool and how this red stuff makes this huge curve. Your sky could not be any better, it squeezes us down to the earth somehow, adding a weired feeling. Interesting corner indeed, I wish I went down that far when I was in Montana. Best regards ... it is summer outside, warm and beautiful ... Barbara.

You guys are getting dangerous... LOL!!!
It didn't take you much (it applies to both of you) to get that Western feeling...
Awesome perspective, awesome colors, awesome shot.
Love that funnel effect created by the combination sky/red soil fading in the distance, you get totally sucked into the picture...
GREAT JOB! Love it.
Cheers,
Fulvio.

Hi Kristaps,
That wonderful dramatic stormy sky testifies to the bad weather on its way.
Love the details and sharpness to the steam and sky which contrast brilliantly with the vivid red foreground which is the same as Maine's blueberry fields in the fall.

Hi, Kristaps. The colour of the ring round the spring is really amazing and its texture looks unearthly. The steam marks a clear border between the spring and the background and the people we can see on the right give the scale. The sky is dramatic with its grey clouds.
Best wishes,
Philippe

Hi Kristaps,
A place that looks so photogenic as it is strange. You knew how to take profit of the view to produce a gorgeous image. The red strip looks like a psicadelic road to the infinite; along with the clouds, they give an impressive sense of dynamism. Good work. I like how it is naturally "half desaturated" (only the red isn't almost B&W).
Regards, José.

Bonjour Kristaps,
tu fais subir à tes photos, exactement le même traitement qu'aux miennes, j'aime donc beaucoup le résultat.
Quant au sujet, il m'a toujours fasciné cet endroit et tu le rends dans une ambiance mystérieuse.
Amicalement.
Daniel.

Kristaps,
if I wouldn't have been there 1 1/2 months prior to you at the very same place I would accuse you now of some wild and unnatural PP. I know it better! I testify for anyone here at TE that these are real colors.
The eeriness of the red, the steam on the horizon and the clouds provides and extraordinarily good composition.

The place itself is interesting enough to be voted but the frame you put it in and the perspective you have chosen really make the picture a photograph. TFS. Wishes, Tom.

Hi Kristaps,
I like Kristine's version a lot but I prefer this one (hopefully she won't read this) :) so much more. There aren't many colours but those shown here are just hypnotic. The dramatic contrast between vivid orange-red and gray dynamicly cloudy sky with blue dots is simply astonishing! And to be even more dramatic, the chosen point of view with strong curved spring and exploding clouds just adds the powerful dramatic impact on an observer. Everything appears like it is about to burst out from the capture...explode in its beauty. Brilliant!
Kind regards,
Jeri

Hi Kristaps.
The colours and the composition are good, as also your point of view and especially the way you managed the light.
Well done.
