Photographer’s Note

Cumalikizik, which is so close to Bursa that it can be considered one of its neighborhoods yet defies the city's chaos with its natural beauty, has regional and national significance with its historic, cultural, archaeological and natural beauty. The houses in Cumalikizik are different both in their outer appearance and internal decoration. It is not easy to tell how old the houses are. There are about 10-12 houses with upper windows in the village. They have the characteristics of the Sultan Selim III period. The houses, which are usually two or three stories high, are reached by passing through a double wooden door and a courtyard. The first floor with a low ceiling is used in the winter, while the second floor with the high ceiling is the summer residence. The houses were constructed taking other home owners into consideration and built in such a way that they wouldn't block one another's views. The windows overlook the street, the courtyard and the mosque. There are 270 houses in the village, 57 of which are fine examples of civilian architecture. There is also a mosque, Turkish bath, two monumental plane trees and a historic well."
