Photographer’s Note
Comb Ridge
Nr. Blanding, Utah, USA
This one took us completely by surprise!
Driving Route 95 from Natural Bridges National Monument to our next stop at Monticello. A pleasant evening light, for sure, then, over the next hill and "Whoaaaaa..." this huge glowing ridge sailed into view.
My first thought was that we'd discovered the southernmost extremity of Capitol Reef - but my geography was a bit off on that one!
Turns out, it's the northern tip of a feature known as Comb Ridge. Indeed, this is just the tip, the majority of it's length lies to the South of this point; as it were, behind me.

Colin, this is an impressive piece of earth. Nice color and detail and the sky works well then the mist or haze on the ground in the distance scales it well. Fine capture.

Colin,
This is a fantastic landscape with excellent lighting and color. Your composition is great using the slope of the mountain to create a diagonal through the shot. The road leads the eye through the sense nicely creating a nice sense of direction.

Hi Colin,
Clean lines, great depth and excellent color juxtaposition. I like the bands of color and texture that lead my eye clockwise around the frame and up to the sky.
Cheers!

Hi Colin,
Great landscape and very nice point of view. Our eyes follow the top line of the ridge to the background of the picture. The depth of field is great and the colours are very nice. A good picture !

Hi Colin,
Wonderful Western USA view. Viewpoint on the foot of the ridge gives good sweeping view of it. Those red tones look so good every time.

Hello Colin! Oh yes, there are a lot of whoaaaaa's for this area and I have still many of them left. For the driver it needs a lot of patience for all the little stop-overs, after each curve one, but it seems essential when you are into photography and each stop you don't make gives you a sting in the heart and you think that you have missed the shot of the shots but this is why we are here on TE, sharing these thoughts that not everybody understands. Fantastic how you approached this photo with the long line of rock formation with the road going along ending who knows where and this helps to understand the dimension this place has. Very very good! Have a good Monday, Barbara.
