Photographer’s Note

Agrigento owns the set of Greek temples better conserved of the world. The valley of the temples of Agrigento, (old Akragas) patrimony of the humanity was described by Píndaro like “most beautiful of the mortal cities”.

Founded on the 580 a.c conserved its splendor until the 406 a.C when the Carthaginians surrounded and sacked the city that sheltered 200,000 inhabitants. Again at Roman time Agrigento it enjoyed importance in century III a.C until its final decay with the arrival of Byzantine and Christian that devastated their pagan temples. Left until one becomes archaeological enclosure.

Agrigento owns in addition enormously rich an archaeological museum. The landscape of almonds tree mixed with the solar twilights turns to the valley of the temples into an idyllic place, although in vacacionales stations and mainly in the central hours of the day the affluence can get to be exhausting. The two first fortnights of Agrigento February it welcomes the Contest the International of Folklore during the celebrations of the Sagra of the Mandorlo in Fiore.
