Photographer’s Note
a panorama shot of Castle Howard.
Some of Yorkshire's best-kept secrets lie in the rolling Howardian Hills between Malton and Thirsk, home of Castle Howard which is one of the most famous landmarks of the North Yorkshire countryside.
Even when it was built, it took more than a century to complete, spanning the lifetimes of three Earls and countless architects and craftsmen who dedicated themselves to the extraordinary work of art.
That beauty was marred by a devastating fire in 1940, which destroyed the dome and over 20 rooms. For over twenty years the dome was unroofed, but by 1962 repairs had been completed. In the meantime, Castle Howard was opened to the public (1952). In 1982 the appeal of Castle Howard was further enhanced when it was chosen as the setting for the television production of Evelyn Waugh's novel Brideshead Revisted. A permanent exhbition relating to the filming of the television series can be seen by visitors to the house.

Excellent shot! The pov shows the castle in a very interesting way. The dark clouds, uniform diffused light falling on the castle, green grass, all make a wonderful image.

Hello, Sue.
What a fine compact and bijou pied-à-terre you have there!
I like this picture a lot. The composition and the colours and lighting and exposure are all wonderful but, oh, what a pity the very tip-top bit of the dome is missing: I wonder if you could have cloned in a little more sky above the image to correct that?
When I saw "panorama" in your note, I was looking forward to seeing a bigger, panoramic shot of this - that would be wonderful. Personally, I've never uploaded a panorama as I'm not sure quite how to go about it, but others have and I find some of them quite impressive. I might experiment sometime.
But, depite these very minor misgivings, this is a very nice shot with an interesting and informative note.
Kind Regards,
John.

Hi Sue
Nice pad! I agree this is one of Yorkshires treasures (along with Helmsley etc) I remember this as one of the "classic" shots of this grand house. I agree with Tyro pity about the tip of the dome. Otherwise this is a very compettant shot good exposure, great sky.

Sue
This is a very good shot. The pov is excellent and shows off the castle at a good angle. The dark clouds make for an interesting sky.
