Photographer’s Note

I just spent a few ‘winter’ days up at Maroochydore with some good friends during the past week. The weather was exceptional, warm days that were reminiscent of early summer and clear skies punctuated by the odd cloud. An afternoon spent fishing alongside the Maroochy River produced a few whiting, none big enough to keep however. But it was the sunset that really was the bonus. Having not taken my own camera along I borrowed my friend Jeremy's (pictured here as the 'lone fisherman') Canon IXUS 70. It really was a beautiful compact camera, which seemed to handle the handheld, low lighting conditions very well. This photo I admit is a pretty basic setup, but the moment was certainly worth capturing and sharing. There was a stillness in the air and water that appeared so incredible, that it was almost a crime to interrupt by casting a rod or even talking. I have a few more in this series which I might share over the next few days. The view looks across the shallow Maroochy River towards Chambers Island and the northern riverbank. Matt
