Ice breaking Photo

Photographer’s Note

Although I do not live very far from Espoo Bay, it is not easy to see this special moment of ice breaking in spring. It often lasts just only a couple of hours. If it is calm like at this time, the ice is not breaking into pieces, but is melting into the water gradually. While it is getting thinner and thinner, its colour is changing from light grey to various darker shades and eventually almost black. Then the ice is suddenly away.

I was lucky this time to catch this moment in an early morning.

A very interesting picture , with the ice melting in the water . All the grounds are beautifull : the rocks , the pine-trees , the lake , and the forest . Very natural colors .

Hi Lasse,
Sounds like you were quite privileged to witness this, and I guess this is a happy time after cold cold and cold for so long during the Finnish winter? I like your composition with foreground rocks and a little horizon, and the nice warm light on the top of the trees. Looks like a lovely spot :)
