Frederiks Kirke, popularly known amongst Danes as the Marmokirken (Marble Church) is an impressive structure, with the largest dome of its kind in Scandinavia.

It had a rather unfortunate start to life in that construction commenced in 1749 but it was only completed almost 150 years later in 1896, having been plagued by cost problems, death of the architect and subsequent loss of the plans.

The size of the church is placed in its proper perspective when the viewer considers that the photograph was taken from a boat in the Copenhagen harbour looking across the square in front of Amalienborg Palace.

What pleases me about the image is the compression of the distance by the zoom lens, showing the viewer the people in the foreground with as much clarity as the church almost a kilometre behind them and the statue of Frederik V inbetween. I love the technology!
