Photographer’s Note
niagara falls ("american falls" to be more precise) as seen at night from the canadian side of the niagara river. technically, what we see, is actually in the US rather than Canada, but since I took the shot while standing on the Canadian ground i decided to file it as a 'Canuck' shot.
there is a plethora of general and historical niagara falls information available on wikipedia. i will not repeat that here. let me just mention, that i would prefer to have been able see this marvel in the XVIII century... what can i say... those high-rises, ticket booths, and Mc-establishments just do not go well with my idea of natural waterfalls :))
i enjoyed the nightly light display on the falls though.

Hello Kristaps! You impress me with this night shot, a blue hour in the complete darkness I would call it, normally we go the other way around here on TE but this is as good, as different and exciting. I have never seen the falls myself but you give a different light to something that has been shown many times. Very very good ... I hope you are doing just fine! Barbara.

Hi Kristaps,
superb light management, perfect exposure and a truly beautiful framing. My compliments!
One of those shots that would prompt me to hit the nearest bar in an eyewink without... taking it, he he!
Good to have ya back, have a great day!

Hello Kristaps
A place that I have ever been before. You present it very well. The colours of the falls are very nice. The fog and the rocks on the bottom of the falls are magical. I think that the buildings on the other side are a part of the city of Buffalo.
Best regards
Denis!

Kristaps, GREAT shot, a night shot not trying to be a day shot, fantastic. The only comment I have is about the frame, it is distracting, and since I don't use photo shot I don't understand the limitation that makes these frames necessary. Doesn't matter the shot is great.

Hi, Kristaps -
I could have done without the lines, but otherwise it's a lovely shot, and brings back memories of when I went to Niagra Falls when I was 12. It was kitchy then, too. Good mix of colors and lights, and nicely off-balanced. The misty quality of the foreground is also great. How long an exposure was it?
You raise a question that has bothered me from time to time: If I stand in one country and take a picture of another, which country should I list it as? My feeling is that it should be the country I'm looking at, mainly because it is, after all, a picture of that country, and that should be what counts. What if I had shot a scene from an airplane at 30,000 feet? I have a shot of Greenland from that altitude - color neg, not digital, so I haven't posted it. But if I do, what other country could I list it as? The country I was flying from or to? On the other hand, it would imply that I was in Greenland, which wasn't true. An interesting dilemma.
Best,
Dan

You Niagara is soft and romantic, Kristaps…
And it's hanging above… Suspended in the air…
My Niagara is full of madness and it's roaring with its mouth full of foam and horror…
Your Niagara is to take your loved one to one of those special hotel rooms with the mirrors on the ceiling…
My Niagara is to take the loved one and pushed her over the barrier…
The beauty and the beast…
The kiss and the choke…
Hey… The world is full of wonders…
Love man, love and roar….

Hi Kristaps,
there is something in this wonder that we cannot see in Iguassu Falls. The night light. Really beautiful...your image is clear and crispy and not noisy. The low shutter speed was essential to bring details of the falling water. Great job on the compo and fine adjustments.

Carlos

Hi Kristaps,
Oy yes, it are the American falls, no doubt about it. I never saw them at evening light, i was only there during the day. Have seen this light images before and just as in yours it looks great. Pity you don't have more light in the sky, than it would be truly a once in a liftime shot...

I like a lot the dreamy effect the the long exposure has created, the milky water looks nothing like the roaring Falls they actually are. the buildings in the background, the panoramic format and the frame work really well to convey the scale, very nice. I'll have to try and find something similar, but different in colour :P

K.

You have done very well to slow down the movement of these vast falls to this extent for the wonderful smooth effect of the water. The only other night shots from here I have seen are with rainbow coloured lights on the falls which look very garish. The subtle blue that was there for you is perfect. There are just enough lighted buildings across the river for interest in the scene.

Hi Kristaps,
Yeah, same place but a much better shot. I like the zoom too. Beautifully done, very good quality. Regarding the blue hour time, they don't turn on the lights until it is completely dark, I don't think there is any way to take it.

Hi Kristaps,
Lovely slow exposure shot of the beautiful falls and skyline across from the Canadian side.
The nighttime colors are soft and true with the varying shades of white and blue blending beautifully with the gold and green lights.

HI Kristaps,
That blue does wonder glowing against the surrounding darkness, the long exposure resulting from the small aperture smoothed the water in a very enjoyable way, I like this.
Have a nice day JY

Hello Kristaps,
I just wrote to Kristine that she had mastered the D200. You've clearly mastered the D300, a spectacular piece of equipment. I've had this view on a couple of occasions in the daytime, never having stayed there at night. Congratulations a minor masterpiece.
Have a good weekend,

Hello Kristaps,
Wonderful, especially in combination with the one of Kristine!
Yours is in the blue tones, hers in the yellow/oranges. A bit dark here in the sky, but still enough ambient light to show us the place. Nice.

Kristaps,
the blue tone on the waterfall itself is fantastic, very beautiful, what a wonderful place that must be, I didn't even know it is illuminated and you can take night photos there. Composition is excellent and the scale, thought we know how big this waterfall really is but it will never be the same as being there in person, but it's the next best thing, thanks for sharing.

Hello Kristaps
The falls looks like spindles of cascading threads finely lit up by the blue light. In fact the flow of water in the FG, those rocks lit up with light creates quite a magical atmosphere. The city at the top half of the picture is sort of a contrast, solid & unmoving. Perfect in a pano format. Well done!
Best Regards

Olá Kristaps, you present the general view before the closer approach, almost abstract vison of the subject...I like your last exercise, but somehow I enjoy this more "normal" view, specially the gorgeous bottom part of the picture. The strong light on the building in the background disturbs a bit, though. Yeah, I felt the same visiting the wonders of Egypt...

Hi Kristaps,
a very nice shot! The long shutter speed gave you this nice blurred effect on the water, which I very like! Colors are great and so is your POV, good handling of the exposure. I`m looking forward to visiting this place myself in a few weeks, after seeing your shot I`m totally excited. Many thanks for sharing!
Take care
